Volvo 145s Twin carb B20B M40 Manual wagon for sale
Current customer rating:
My impulse buy is your gain.
The practicality of running a car of this age as a daily driver is not a realistic proposition and unfair to this particular car.
This Volvo is a pretty rare thing being a 1972 145 s B 20 B motor (twin carbs) with a manual 4 speed M 40 gearbox.
Engine number: 82584669 Chassis number: 1453349 Odometer reading approx 253. 00
There is a massive history file back to the day it was purchased new on 23 rd of December 1972 by Dr John Smith of Deloraine Tasmania and delivered on the 3 rd January 1973. included is the original sales brochure / advertisement.
The car changed hands in September 1976 with a then speedo reading of 46. 36 miles to Mr B Stevens.
Included is the Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania special inspection report and the receipt for the payment of $6. 15 to Bessant Motors.
The Volvo service book is filled out to 01/02/1980 and 73. 00 miles. The second owner then kept a car record book and all the receipts for everything spent on the car between 1976 until until the 4 th of January 2009 with 249. 61 miles.
The rego sticker in the window expired on 08/02/2011 and it has been in storage ever since.
Notable expenditure includes Oil changes every 6000 miles and latterly every 3000 miles.
An engine rebuild including a rebored block. overhauled rods. new pistons. crank polish. cam grind. resurfaced lifters. an overhauled head. oil pump. bearings. valve guides etc costing $1432. 18 back on 13/07/1988 and 126. 07 miles.
Clutches 26/02/1980 73. 52 miles 12/08/1996 171. 8024/04/2003 215. 59 and replaced again in October 2004 at 226. 47 miles despite being a faulty clutch cable.
The garages that have looked after the car are Bessant Motors Pty ltd (Volvo). 95-99 Hobart road. Launceston (1970's-1980's)Jims Prospect service station. 345 Bass Highway. Launceston (early 1980's)Pride Autos 71 b Frederick St. Launceston David O'Brien Motors. Carrick (1990's)Jims car care centre 345 Westbury road. prospect vale Launceston (2000's)
The car exudes more history than any other i have seen.
It carries its original rego plates (expired) and the attention to detail in the record keeping has to be seen to be appreciated.
That being said it is now 44 years old and is not a new car. so please don't expect it to be.
The car runs and drives. the engine doesn't smoke. the gears change smoothly and the clutch is in excellent working order. It has recently had new front tyres and the brake callipers have been rebuilt but the previous keeper.
Apparently required to move it.
It needs some light recommissioning including a full service. tune up. suspension bushes plus i am sure there are other items that will be needed for a car of this age.
I am not a mechanic so cannot advise on everything that is needed.
The interior is very good with no obvious rips to the upholstery.
The carpet in the passenger compartment doesn't show much wear. and certainly no holes are fading.
That in the boot is pretty tired but thats due to age and exposure to the sun i assume.
The paintwork is getting a bit tired but looks good from a couple of metres back and some bubbling on the nearside front wing and a scratch on the offside front wing.
It is regretful that i have to move the Volvo on as i love these cars. but i really did not take into consideration the practicalities of a 44 year old car.
I paid far too much for it as an emotional purchase. and at the advertised price i am losing a bundle.
Don't be shy to make an offer as i would like it to go to the right home. Buy an unlicensed vehicle permit and drive it away.
The car is located in Armadale Vic 3143.
I can deliver to a transport depot for interstate buyers.
A deposit of $500 is required either via bank transfer or cash within 24 hours of agreeing to purchase the car.
Balance to be paid by bank transfer. cash or guaranteed bank cheque on collection.
if bank transfer then funds must clear prior to collection.
You can call me on
or message via e Bay.
Many thanks for getting this far!
