1957 Mercedes 220S Sedan (Same owner for the last 52 years!)

Same Oregon owner since 1963. This rust free car has been immaculately restored and cared for. This car runs and drives excellent and is in exceptional condition.

History: The current owner (Floyd) is an engineer/car collector and as you can imagine he has a close attention to detail and makes sure everything is always working properly. Floyd bought the car in 1963 from a Doctor who bought the car new. The Doctor's daughter's boyfriend froze the engine and it sat at a shop where Floyd got his cars worked on. Floyd purchased the car in 1963. fixed the motor in the 70's and drove the car through the 80's. Then it received a comprehensive ground up no expense spared restoration between 2006-2008. The car is for sale because Floyd is now at an age that he can't drive.

Engine & Transmission: The mechanics on this car are very well sorted. The manual transmission shifts smoothly and runs strong. The 6 cyl motor sounds exceptionally nice. (see video). During the comprehensive restoration all mechanical and electrical components were sorted. Rebuilt brake hydraulics. fuel pump. wiring harness. front suspension. king pin etc… The car was completely gone through. All gauges work. turn signals. fog lamps. lights are all in proper working condition (see video). A no expense spared restoration by an engineer owner. I can't think of a better scenario for a buyer. This car is nice.

Body: The rust free body panels are all straight. All glass is in great shape no chips or cracks. The paint is nice and shows very well. it was obviously done correctly as it shows no issues after 9 years. I would grade the paint as a 9 on a scale from 1-10. All the chrome is very nice with exception of three of the door handles and the trunk lid handle. there is some small pitting on these items (see photos) but all other chrome is exceptional nice.   The rubber is good and all plastic lenses look new. The trunk area is very nice as well as the spare tire compartment. I looked closely at the body and took detailed photos to show the great condition. The exterior color is very nice and shows the great lines of the car.

Interior: The interior has been restored. All wood is in excellent shape. the door skins are very nice as well as the inside door armrests. The chrome bits in the interior are great. The dash bezel looks new and all the gauges work as they should. The radio turns on and the light comes on but I did not get any sound out of it. not sure if I could not find an AM station or if there is more that needs to be done on it. The steering wheel center is very nice and turn signals work as they should. the steering wheel has a while leather cover around it and I am told that was put on to cover a few small cracks. The carpet is good and the seats show no signs of wear. The shifter boot looks original (see photo). New headliner. interior lights all work as they should. Glove box has books/manuals and there are a set of original keys.

Summary:

This is a wonderful example of a classic 50's Iconic Mercedes. It is nice to find cars like this that have been taken care of and in my opinion that is best way to buy them rather than tackle a project yourself. Floyd did all the hard work and now it is time for the next owner to enjoy the car. It would take a great deal of resources to restore a car to this condition today. This one is perfect for cruising during the week and taking to car shows on the weekend.
