1965 AMC Rambler Classic 'wagon'  Sympathetically lowered. fresh interior. good sounds and perfect patina.
Have you ever gone out to buy something specific. and returned with something completely different ? Well. this Rambler is the result of a trip to see a Mustang Fastback . The Mustang was no good. however the Rambler gods were smiling as it was in the right place at the right time and the rest is history.
The Car is spectacularly rust free. as far as I can tell it is totally devoid of the stuff - (with the exception of the fantastic patina to the paintwork only 51 years in the sun can create ) The odometer reads 44000 miles. and the condition reflects this. I cannot be 100% sure. but it is just too clean and (ironically) un-weathered where it matters to be a high mileage vehicle. Likewise the interior is very clean indeed. I think the carpets may be new. and the seats appear to have been re trimmed professionally.
It has no significant dints. the seals are good. the rear door is still as cool to operate as it was the first time I wound down the back window glass - poke a happy dog. or a couple of surfboards out of the back and life becomes a lot more interesting.

Engine wise it has the 'new for 65' 145hp 3. 8 litre straight six engine. mated to a three speed manual gearbox with column change - the motor runs nicely. the box is good too. but the column shift takes a little practice. and may benefit from some adjustment. It does drive well. and performed faultlessly in the States over a 70 mile trip. I have noticed the front brakes are a bit grabby since it landed here though.   I will try and make time to take a look.
The car has been lowered slightly and was used on a daily basis in the States. it certainly looks great. and drives very nicely. the lowering has not compromised ride quality or handling and it does as it should when it should.
It has had some sensible upgrades such as the aluminium radiator. period style tyres and stereo fitment. but could do with some tinkering before being used in anger - the aforementioned shifter and brake questions. plus it needs an indicator arm. some wiper arms (which I have somewhere)  rear view mirror and generally a quick check over.
To summarise this is a superb original Rambler which has survived the last 51 years remarkably well. it wears a fantastic patina. but no battle scars. rust or other nasties often associated with older cars.    It has received a degree of sympathetic hot rod styling to compliment the condition and current popularity of modified original station wagons - but could be taken further in that direction or enjoyed as is.
I think it is a very cool car.  with a fantastic look and awesome potential.
