Current customer rating:
1969 Daimler DS 420 Limousine
Moted till August 2017
Number 193 built ( 5 th oldest registered DS 420 when I inquired last year )
I have owned this car since 2001. it had been dry stored for 10 years.
I carried out a lot of restoration work when i first bought it.
Work carried out was sills replaced and drains repaired properly around back wind down windows . welding to passenger side floor and chassis leg. repairs to a couple of the door bottom corners. ( front and rear wheel arches were repaired before I had the car ) The welding repairs have been carried out to a high standard.
It had a full respray in Roman Bronze and Aztec Gold.
A lot of work was also carried out on the interior. this included new Headlining. new furflex around the door shuts. wood work re lacquered and new carpets including the boot.
It was then used as a wedding car for a number of years.
About 5 years ago I put an engine and gearbox in from a series 3 XJ 6 that had only done about 53000 miles. I also had the radiator re cored at the same time.
The gearbox is a borgwarner 66 which is an upgrade from the original box. so changes through the gears much smoother now.
No alterations to the bodywork were required to fit this gearbox. just had to change the prop shaft end. and make new brackets for the gear linkage cable and gearbox to bulkhead mount.
Last year i bought 4 new tyres. rebuilt the front calipers and changed the front brake hoses ( the rear calipers and hoses were done some years previously )and rebuilt the brake master cylinder.
This year I have fitted two new fuel pumps and had the carburetors tuned. I have also fitted new convex glass wing mirror heads to replace the flat glass ones.
The car presents very well. the paint work still shines up nicely. but being an older restoration has unfortunately got micro blisters in a few places and a few other marks ( it is still very presentable as is ).
Chrome work is very presentable.
The exhaust system is mild steel and in good condition.
The passenger side doors do need repairs to the bottom corners as shown in the pictures.
There are a few things that need attention still. the bulkhead needs repairing under the heater box area. I have a decent heater box with fans that is included in this auction and the front seat needs new leather. the rear seat back has started to crack on the one side. the seat base had new leather about 5 or 6 years ago.
The car drives very nicely. and always gets lots of attention when out and about.
You are welcome to view the car.
