1961 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon True 23 window

A TRUE 1961 23 window Deluxe microbus. Verified by VIN.

I have owned this bus for 23 years. I bought it from the original owner in Texas in 1993. A true TWO owner bus. I still have the Texas Title and bill of sale.

ONLY reason for offering it is because I am closing on a real estate property at the end of September. However. I DON'T NEED to sell the bus to make the real estate deal happen. Just testing the waters!

As you can see. it is not completely finished. but 95% there. If it doesn't sell here I will finish it and ask for more.

Here is a great opportunity to purchase a REAL FACTORY 23 window bus with its original engine. True collectors will appreciate the 2 owner history and the fact it is priced very reasonable for what it is.

The bus was recently restored and painted its original color combo. Everything was stripped down to the metal. Painted inside and out. The bus has never been hit in the nose. Body is mostly all original including the bellypans. doglegs and rockers. Battery tray. front floor boards. partial rear floor boards. was all that was necessary to replace. The body was in really great shape prior to restoration.

This was not a rotisserie restoration. The belly pans and underneath were coated with undercoating. (see pics). At the time of restoration. my plan was to DRIVE it. and ENJOY it.

All new rubbers were installed. Glass was installed. New MoHair headliner was installed. aluminum trim was all buffed and polished. original speedometer and original clock. original steering wheel. custom door panel kit (yea. I know. but like I said my intentions were to drive and enjoy). Original jailbars installed……and on and on.

I have the original motor that came with the bus. The motor serial number in the picture shows 5892038.

It now has a 1776cc motor with the freeway flyer transmission. I do not have the original transmission.

Finishing cosmetic touches include:

* Installing the rear section of the headliner (I have)

* Installing the ragtop (I have)

* Installing glass (I have 2)

*A little wiring. turn signal. horn. etc)

Major items I DON'T have:

* Both rear seats

* One skylight window

* One corner window

* One door window set

I also have the front seat FRAME ONLY.

I also have the REAR BUMPER with overriders and splash pans. (It is currently not painted due to the fact that I bought it after the paint job was completed. I never took it in to get it done. )
