1957 Studebaker Hawk for sale
Current customer rating: (465 votes ) based on1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk
In 1957 Studebaker came to the sports car market late with their 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk. In 1954 Corvette was already established as a sports car and in 1955 Ford came out with their Thunderbird. Studebaker decided to come out with a four-place sports touring 2-door hardtop in 1957 well in advance of the 1958 Thunderbird 4-place sports sedan.
In 1957 Studebaker's the Studebaker Golden Hawk was a 2-door hardtop sports car with a McCulloch supercharger to the 289 cid V8 engine. developing 275 h. p. (keep in mind that a fuel injected 1957 Corvette only had 283 h. p. – a difference of 8 h. p. ) If you checked off the right box when ordering your new 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk you could also have ordered the wire wheel hubcaps that added a lot to the visual appearance. Dual exhaust of course came with the McCulloch supercharged engine. Remember that the Golden Hawk was the last sports touring until the Avanti. Most collectors still love the vertical egg crated grille and the raised hood line along with the squared off trunk lid and tailfins.
In reference to the Hawk in this eBay listing the gentleman who was working on making an excellent street car and bringing it up into show condition. passed away. The car starts. runs and drives as it should but there are still some details that need to be completed to make the car more perfect. It has been noted that there are “there are no indications that it would need any major restoration to become a number one car”. In reference to the interior it is in very nice condition and dash gauges are near new condition. The dash pad is torn in a few spots and it appears that one ashtray is missing. Note that the 3-speed shift is on the column and the steering wheel is in very good condition. The carpets and headliners are good and floors are solid. The radio is not installed but believed to be in a box that will go with the car but the widow is not sure. The windows are operated by power and there is an owner's manual in the glove box. The underside of the chassis is clean and solid. The exhaust system is relatively new. The engine is believed to be the original Studebaker 289 cid V8 equipped with the McCulloch supercharger which develops 275 h. p. The engine compartment is clean and neat but not highly detailed. There may be some problem with the fuel pump. It appears that everything under the hood is complete including the generator.
In reference to the exterior. the general appearance of the paint is good. the body fit is good and lines are straight. The glass is good and there may be a couple of small trim pieces that are missing. In general the chrome and stainless is all very good. Note odometer reads 16. 76 unknown if original.
It is unfortunate that the gentleman who was trying to bring the car to a full restoration has passed away and his wife really does not know a lot more then what has been presented in this ad. You can certainly let the pictures do the talking. The car has a very conservative reserve and is a beautiful example of a 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk.
Any Hawk owner will tell you that it is very exciting when you hit the accelerator pedal to the floor from a stand still and hear the supercharger take over with a noise that is only attributable to a McCulloch supercharger.
The widow has indicated that her husband purchased the car in 1991 and the northeastern state where the widow resides. transfers cars of this age by a owner's registration certificate and not a title and the car also comes with a bill of sale.
Check out the pictures and you will see just how attractive this car will be at any collector car gathering.
