A fine and rare 2nd series 1750GTV. UK factory RHD example. well restored.

History of this car

Our car was supplied new to UK specifications to Osnabruck in Germany to its British Army first owner. In 1983 he moved back to the UK and it was first registered here in Aldershot as BJD 751H. the current age related registration.

The Alfa changed hands in 1985. and again in 1990 to a London based lady owner. In 2000 the Alfa was in Essex before being acquired in 2001 by the Derby domiciled gentleman we purchased the car from. By this time the Alfa required rust repair. and the owner. an old school body shop professional. bought the GTV as a retirement project and completely rebuilt the Bertone to a high standard from 2002-5.

After completion the Alfa won the 2005 AROC Concours restored cars category and was used for rallies and AROC events and it participated in the Giulia 50th anniversary celebrations in 2012.

We were fortunate to acquire this delightful example recently and today this GTV presents as a delightful original car. not over restored in any way. with top mechanicals. lovely interior. nice paint and great rust-free body.

Our car is fitted with later 2000 GTV centre caps to the road wheels but is supplied with the original hub caps; it is otherwise stock in appearance.

Recorded mileage is 88. 00. which is supported by a large run of MOTs. and is believed but unwarranted the genuine mileage from new.

There is a large history folder showing much expenditure on the Alfa. clearly the car was always well looked after.

Body

This Bertie has an excellent body with particularly nice panel fit. often a weakness of this model on restored cars. and the sill profile is absolutely correct.

The previous owner completely rebuilt the bodywork including replacing the entire sill sections both sides. i. e outer. middle and inner membranes. fitted wing repair sections. door skins. rear valance. wheel arches. spare wheel well and more besides. All of this work is photo documented and invoices are on file for the parts used (all body parts are steel).

The good news continues underneath with a rock solid chassis. all the usual trouble spots on these cars are without corrosion.

The body rebuild in 2002-5 was followed by a cellulose repaint which remains in good condition. The paint is the original Pino Verde colour. There are no bubbles but there are some small imperfections consistent with an older paint job. including a few areas where the paint has been polished thin; overall though the car makes for a pleasingly authentic presentation.

All bright work is generally very good; the glass is excellent and the road wheels have been recently sand blasted and repainted.

Mechanics

This is a real strength of this example. the service history showing it has always been carefully maintained without regard to expense. hence the superb way it drives today. and we much enjoyed the 250 mile drive back from the Alfa's previous home.

The engine was completely professionally rebuilt 16000 miles ago including fitment of new pistons and liners. oil pump. timing chain and cam shafts. rebuilt cylinder head with new valve seats etc (invoices on file). This engine today starts instantly hot or cold. is very quiet. has excellent oil pressure. is in perfect tune and makes a lot of power.

More recently the gearbox has been rebuilt with new synchros and selectors. and the braking system (including piping) replaced and suspension thoroughly overhauled.

The under bonnet is really well finished with a lot of new maintenance in evidence.

MOT until November 2016.

Interior

Our car has a terrific original interior with of course the amazing seats this model is fitted with. An undamaged dash top. crisp gauges. original good headlining. very good undamaged upholstery. door cards and carpeting complete an impressive cabin. It is fitted with inertia reel seat belts. fire extinguisher. a map reading light and a nice period Philips radio/tape player.

All in all. a lovely place to sit.

Boot

Very tidy throughout with original mat. spare wheel with tie down. jack and toolkit.

Summary

A refreshing change to see one of these not in the ubiquitous red. This is a gem of the desirable 1750GTV. rare in RHD and this one isn't a South African import. which so many RHD are. Our car is structurally excellent. mechanically superb and ready to go. supplied with large history folder and an owner's manual.
