I have decided to sell my BUGatti racing tribute car. I hope those interested can understand and appreciate both what the car is. and what it isn't.

Let me briefly explain why this particular car exists in this form. As do most true antique car aficionados. I have always loved the 1920's era Bugattis and have always thought the 1960's to 1970's replicas. all shiny and with modern wheels. tires. fenders. and steering wheels. ere a bit cheesy. Of course. the Argentinean Pur Sang reconstruction is a great car in its own right. Unfortunately. with prices for a 1920's era Bugatti in the millions and in the hundreds of thousands for a Pur Sang reconstruction. either is out of reach for most. I decided to fill a niche (or at least my own desire to own a resemblance of such a fine car).

As you can see from the pictures. I spent many hours and $ on transforming the car. I started with a very nice example with low miles. well built. and in very good condition. My concept was to make it look like a 1920's era race car that was raced. then put aside and left untouched until rediscovered many years later. Based on the comments of everyday folks who have seen the car in person. I succeeded. Among many other items. I had a local artist hand paint numbers and period automotive advertising on the car (all was done free hand as in the 1920's. no stenciling was used). as well as painstakingly apply a "patina" to the car to make it look an authentic preservation car. If you look closely. nbsp;paint brush strokes are visible in the numbers.  The area above the exhaust is added patina and not the result of a rich exhaust; the car does not smoke or burn oil. The design of the numbers and patined areas were taken directly from period photographs of a real 1920's Bugatti race car. The Mobil Oil Flying Pegasus design and location on the car were recreated from the 1933 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 "Don Lee Special. " New gauges were added as well as a 1920's era steering wheel and a real metal dash in the Bugatti engine turned style. Of course. all Bugattis of the era had a clock. This car does too! Spacers were professionally machined so that 1920's wire wheels with brand new Insa tires could be properly. and safely. installed. To be made perfect. one wheel could be trued. but is fine to drive as is.  Knock-offs from a Jaguar E-type were added to the wheels and Bugatti badging was added to the knock-offs.

To enhance driveability. the car has a new shift bushing and urethane shift coupler. The car has been thouroughly checked out by a mechanic and is ready to go. Recently. I have been driving it regularly with no issues. The car is powered by a vw engine and it. and the car. runs and drives well. The car is reliable and fun. To me. it is affordable and drivable art.

Original wheels. fenders. steering wheel. etc go with the car and are in good shape. but I can't imagine why anyone would want to put them back on. A tow bar will also go with the car. The car can be towed behind the back of virtually any vehicle with this tow bar. Also. I recently replaced the battery with an interstate battery.   The car has a South Carolina title and is titled as a 1967 volkswagon. I do not know the actual mileage on the car.

Typically. when an ad describes a car as being very unique and one of kind. it is a cliche; in this case. it isn't. You will not find another.  I had fun with this car and will be losing my storage space soon. so I am letting it go at NO RESERVE. Thanks for your consideration.

On Jun-10-13 at 19:58:05 PDT. seller added the following information:

The wheels on the car are large 21 inch. with NEW Insa brand tires. The original 15 inch wheels and tires will go with the car if the buyer wants.

Love it ... Is the car still Available ???

Hi,

I'm in the UK and have the same colour replica. How did you do the patina and do the Ford wire wheels fit straight onto a 5 lug VW hub?

Thanks,
Jacob
