1991 Volkswagen Golf mk 2 16 v GTI 1. 8 Tourer (as stated on log book)
Great story with this rare little car. I saw it in a local garage around four years ago and immediately asked who it belonged to and wether they would sell it. The answer was a resounding no. but I never forgot about it and when I got a call last year it was a real treat and I wasted no time going and buying it. When the car was only one year old a tree fell across the rear in the storms and the insurance company could not re-shell it because it was so rare in the oak green and none were available. The owner was not prepared to give in so easily and commissioned a bespoke body to be made. This is what we see today along side a delightful 1920 s inspired speedboat deck on the back which has a cut out for passengers. also the opening for the boot. This was made buy the owners son in law who is a classic boat builder. The car itself is very presentable. the pictures just don't do it justice at all unfortunately. The paint is not so good in some places though and where it was previous a four door there are a few hairline cracks and a blister or two in the bonet. It's a car to drive and enjoy this summer not a trailer queen. It comes with a custom mohair coloured tourno cover. which is actually a really effective roof. There are gaps in the rear door card where handles used to be. I was going to either reprimand or find the bits and fill them in. just run out of time. The interior is really very good. plastics are all in great order. no rips or the usual wear to bolster as you would expect as the cars only done 59000 miles. The engine runs perfectly. shifting is smooth and tight. with the great late pull of the 16 v engine. It brakes in a straight line and there is no strange rattles or knocks over bumps. It's MOT is for a year and there's no advisories. it comes with reams of paperwork including engineers reports of the structural changes.
I can only advise to view this car as it's such a treat. it's never been shown ever. and is bound to make quite a splash this year in the VW world. I would be keeping it for sure but I am running out of space in my unit and can't bear to put it outside. Will consider px offers. call Tom 5 many thanks
