This Classic car drives absolutely superb i have driven around the country roads of Nottinghamshire and what a pleasure it is to drive.
The Humber was a very expensive car back in the 1960's compered to the hilman super minx.
A very good friend of mine wrote a book of all the very first early motor cars in Nottinghamshire. including the history of Thomas Humber. It was very time consuming finding all of the information from the Nottingham archives. Its a very interesting book if your looking to find it the name is "Made In Nottinghamshire".
Richard English was born in Beeston nursing home which he recently found out had once been the home of Thomas Humber. At the age of four Richard moved to the house in which he still lives today. and whilst researching this book has discovered that in December 1903 it was the first house in Beeston and Chilwell to register a motor vehicle (AL 29) which was 1 3/4 hp Humber motor cycle.
I have traveled down Humber road several times in my life and glanced over to the factory where the Humber was onced built and wounded what it was like all them years ago.
ORIGNS OF THE HUMBER MOTOR CARS: In order to trace the development of the Humber motor car it is necessary to go back to the 1887 when Thomas Humber formed a partnership with the prominent 19 th century financier. Harry j. Lawson. In subsequent year Lawson appears to have largely taken over day-to-day running of the Humber company. and it was under his auspices that the first moves towards motor car production were made. Lawson had himself begun his working life as a cycle maker. but quickly recognised the potential of motor vehicles He had set up the British Motor Syndicate with the aim of buying up as many existing and future patents as possible relating to motor manufacturing - both in this country and. to a lesser extent. abroad. Patented innovations concerning the new 'science' of motor engineering were numerous at this time. and it was the British Motor Syndicates desire to gain a monopoly in what Lawson saw as the next big growth industry.
