We photographed this lovely little Italian tourer on the shores of Lake Maggiore in Italy. We will be collecting it soon & bringing it to our showrooms.
One of Italy's largest engineering groups. Ansaldo needed to find a use for its Turin aero engine factory after WWI and decided to diversify into motor car manufacturing. Production of an advanced light car - the Tipo 4 - commenced in 1919. Designed by Ansaldo's chief engineer. Guido Soria. it was powered by an overhead-camshaft four-cylinder engine displacing 1. 47 cc and features an American-style central gearchange to the three-speed gearbox.
The car has been in long term ownership for three decades with a family of Italian industrialists who kept the car for high days & holidays at their lakeside holiday home. During that time it has been well maintained by the local classic car garage.
The paintwork is blue with black wings & is in good lightly patinated condition. To the interior is older very serviceable beigh leather. The car has twin fold out seats making it capable of seating 7 people.
Performance whilst not electifying is adequate & well suited to slower weekend jaunts. The three speed gear box is easy to use & the steering light. The car starts readily & exhibits good oil pressure & runs cool. A useful fold out luggae rack is mounted to the rear for a motoring trunk to be affixed to. The car sits on wooden artillery style wheels.
This is the second Ansaldo we have had & is every bit as much of a pleasure to drive as the first one. It has a long easily erected black hood in fine condition as it has rarely been used.
