The Ford Mustang is an American icon and was originally based on
the Ford Falcon compact. The first production Mustang rolled off
the assembly line in Dearborn. Michigan on March 9. 1964 and was
introduced to the public at the New York World's Fair on April 17. br/>1964. It was. and remains. one of the most successful product
launches in automotive history. The Mustang sold over one million
units in its first 18 months on the market and its legend lives on
with revised models still in production today after 43 years.
With each revision. the Mustang saw an increase in overall
dimensions and in engine power. By 1969. the muscle car race was on
and Ford offered a 351. 428 Cobra jet and other performance engines
available in most models and often ordered with the Fastback and
Mach One cars. The '69 Boss 302 and Shelby (available since 1965). br/>were speciality Mustangs offered with both high performance engines
and race-breed suspensions. Ford added a Fastback to its 1965
Mustang line-up and the convertible holds a special place in
American culture and was heavily publicised as 'a car to escape the
mundane nature of life. '

This highly desirable model of the iconic first generation
Mustang. not only comes with a 289ci (4. 7 litre) V8 engine with a
two barrel carburettor. but with a plethora of factory fitted
options such as a C4 automatic transmission. power steering. air
conditioning (not working). 'Carlite' tinted glass. remote control
driver's door mirror and servo assisted drum brakes (a very rare
option). The original radio is fully working and it benefits from a
period wooden steering wheel (the original plastic. deep dished
steering wheel will also be supplied) and not forgetting a power
hood. Perhaps most interestingly however. it has only had two
owners in nearly 27 years with the vendor owning it for just under
20 years. Recent works. over the last three years. include a new
fuel tank together with rubber fuel hoses and fuel filters (a
secondary fuel filter is located under the car). four new shock
absorbers. silicone coolant hoses and four new brake cylinders as
recently as last October.
The car reportedly drives like a dream with its powerful V8 engine
coupled to a silky smooth automatic transmission together with
fingertip control of the power steering. a full MoT test
certificate valid until July 2016 and excellent braking with
servo assistance. So. shades on. hood down and enjoy the
mellifluous sound from twin exhausts!
