In 1965. Rover's Managing Director. William Martin-Hurst. br/>secured the tooling and production rights to the '215' V 8 engine
from Buick. Rover redeveloped the engineering and launched it at
the end of 1967 which. along with some other modifications. br/>transformed their already highly regarded and successful P 5
flagship into the P 5 B. The new aluminium V 8 was significantly
lighter and considerably more powerful than its predecessor. br/>delivering 160 bhp and a massive leap in torque to 210 lb per ft. at
2600 rpm. vastly improving pace. comfort. balance. handling. economy
and reliability. Rover's only gearbox capable of handling such
power was the Borg Warner Typre-35 automatic. Rover now possessed a
formidable sporting saloon to take on the finest from Mercedes-Benz
and Jaguar. Solihull production soon doubled to keep up with
orders.
Presented in Silver Birch over Admiralty Blue with a Webasto
sunroof and a buckskin leather interior. this vehicle was supplied
new by Rover main agents. C. H. Truman of Nottingham. It has had
just four owners from new the last but one looking after it for
over 25 years. It benefits from the complete tool kit under the
dashboard as well as the original handbook and a file of paperwork.
Acceptable upgrades include a large-core radiator. a stainless
steel exhaust and a new laminated windscreen. Together with a full
one year Mo T test certificate. this sound example represents good
value given its condition.
