Sold between 1955 and 1970 by Ford in North America. the name
Fairlane derived from Henry Ford's estate 'Fair Lane' estate near
Michigan. Over time. the name referred to a number of different
cars in different classes. The Fairlane was initially a full-sized
car. but became a mid-sized car from the 1962 model year. A
redesign was introduced for the 1968 model year. although the
wheelbase remained at 116 inches. but it grew in other dimensions.
The car was approximately four inches longer and 200 lb
heavier than the cars they replaced. A fastback model was introduced
in the Fairlane 500 series. as well as a more luxurious Torino
model at the top of the range.

The GTs were part of the Torino range. with the 302 V8 standard. br/>with optional engines being the 390 V8 in two- and four-barrel
versions. The 390 four-barrel was superseded mid-year as the top
performance engine by the 428 cu in (7. 0 Litre)
Cobra Jet. developing 335 bhp. The Talladega 428 has had
little written about it until recently; it served a special purpose
with a very strong race history with major links to the NASCAR
teams of 1969. The one off Ford Talladega was produced specifically
to make Ford more competitive in NASCAR racing and it was sold to
the public only because homologation rules required a certain
minimum number of cars (500) be produced and made available for
sale to the public.

With taxes and duties paid. this Ford Fairlane is UK registered
and without doubt looks good and sounds superb. Benefitting from
power brakes and power steering. the car is very enjoyable to
drive.

Recent work carried out includes the fitment of a new water pump
and PNT 650G looks good under the bonnet. Overall. a clean and tidy
example; the interior has no rips or tears and the bodywork shows
no sign of corrosion. Supplied with a V5C registration document. br/>this sixth generation Fairlane Talladega is exceedingly rare and
offers any purchaser the opportunity to stand out from the
crowd.
