1971 Mercedes Benz 280SL hard top convertibe for sale

Offered for sale is my 1971 280SL.   This car is in very presentable condition.   It runs. drives and shifts very well.   It has new seats and carpet.   The new soft top was just installed.   The paint is probably three years old and looks good. but is by no means perfect.   All chrome. windshield. door handles etc were removed for paintwork.  It is modern basecoat clear coat.   The color is H467 Sand Beige Metallic which is the original color.   It has the original radio and an MP3 jack has been installed which can be seen in the photos.   Front brake calipers. pads and lines were installed approximately a year ago.   I'm not representing this car as a meticulous show car. but it makes a fine weekend driver which can be enjoyed for many years in its present condition while appreciating or taken to the next level.   It has had a bit of rust in the past.   The floors have had some fiberglass repair. but the trunk is solid.   The spare is not in the trunk but I have it.   The clock works. but loses about a minute a day.   The a/c is all there. but does not work.   I have never tried to get it working.   I don't think the blower is working on the heater as well and I have not investigated this either.   Most of the rubber seals have been replaced.  The hard top is painted a beige color as at some time the car was also painted this color.   It really needs to be restored or at least painted and the headliner is stained a bit and has a rip in it.   Please examine the photos and ask any questions that would like answered.   I will do my best to answer.  Inspections are welcomed and can be made anytime before auction end.  Please don't bid with the expectation of inspecting post sale.  I can take more specific photos as well if needed.  A $500 deposit is required within 48 hours of auction close.

In response to a number of questions. I would like to add for all interested the following knowledge.  I purchased this car from the estate of the previous owner who resided in Florida.  I made a copy of the previous title before registering the car in my name.  That title (from Florida) was issued in 1983 to the owner who's estate I bought it from.  The previous title to that one was issued in Illinois in 1982.  I do not know if the owner before me moved to Florida in the early '80s and brought the car with her or purchased the car at that time.  I do have a large stack of repair receipts dating from around 1983 to 1996.  I suspect that the car remained in storage from 1996 to when I purchased it it 2009.  It had signs of long term storage.  Rodent nesting. etc. although no real damage was done as a result of this.  When I bought it the first thing I did was have the gas tank dropped for inspection.  It had been sealed recently. so I am guessing that the estate did what they could to start it and get it running.  I have added a photo of the invoices.  They are all in the previous owner's name.  Please keep the questions coming.  I am happy to answer.

is car available thru an outright sale or thru the bid process. can you describe the rust condition more thoroughly in particularly were the floor panels replaced. rust any other places? is the paint of original color or is it altered?
