History of this car

The Alfa Romeo historical archive states our spider chassis AR1470144 was an early production example of the tipo 105. 58 model manufactured on 19/4/1968 and sold on 19/6/1968 to Alfa Romeo UK. London. finished in the most rare colour combination of celeste with an amaranth skai interior. the same combination it wears today. We believe this is the only UK delivery example of this model to be delivered in this stunning colour combination.

Our car was sold new to a Suffolk farmer and first registered 01/04/1969 bearing registration WXT 1. The Alfa changed hands for the first time in 1977 and stayed with the next owner. mother and daughter. until 2015 when we purchased the car.

Mileage recorded today is 97. 00 miles. which is guaranteed genuine from new. This gorgeous Alfa received a sympathetic photo documented body and mechanical restoration in 2002. further improved by us with significant new expenditure.

Of the 30 or so round tail 1750 spiders on UK roads. this must be the best or one of the best examples. It has always been a pampered car and never been neglected as so many of these cars have been.

Body

Absolutely superb in every way – perfect paint. arrow straight sides. factory panel fit.

The 2002 restoration saw new sills. one floor. front valance and four lower wing repair sections fitted. with a bare metal repaint in a variation of the original subtle celeste colour; detailed photos are on file.

To perfect the car we painted it again in the correct shade of celeste. taking the opportunity to remedy some corrosion issues by replacing the rear wheel arches. rear valance. door skins and bootlid frame and skin.

We also replaced the windscreen and sealing rubber. Carello perspex headlight covers. door check straps and a myriad of body seals.

Chassis wise the Alfa has no corrosion whatsoever. the chassis has been waxoil treated and all cavities have been Dinitrol injected to preserve the car for the future.

The hood is excellent. a Coburn's mohair job dating back to 2007.

All chrome and stainless trim is lovely and overall the car makes a fabulous impression.

Mechanics

The spider is a hoot to drive. The matching numbers engine has completed 7000 miles since being completely rebuilt in 2002 with new pistons. liners. timing chains and an unleaded head conversion. It has factory oil pressure. is very quiet and produces great power. At the time of the overhaul the carburetors were rebuilt and a new clutch installed and the brakes overhauled.

We have just serviced the car as follows:

Replaced clutch slave and master cylinders
New front brake caliper
New brake hoses
Fresh engine oil and filters. plugs. greasing.

As part of our final preparation. the gearbox will be rebuilt to cure a worn 2nd gear syncromesh.

The wheels have been stove enamelled. are well shod with correct profile/size Dunlop (rear) and Continental (front) tyres.

The under bonnet is beautifully and authentically detailed.

The MOT expires on 24. 5. 2016

Interior

This is in generally excellent original condition with undamaged seats. unmarked rubber matting. good carpets. perfect door cards and an uncracked dash top. All gauges work and nice touches include the fitted from new Motorola radio and original keys.

Boot

This has not been repainted so has the original finish. The whole area is very clean with original rubber matting. spare wheel and tie down. The original Battaini jack is in place. as is the toolkit (very rare to find this).



Summary

The 1750 Spider Veloce model in round tail form was only made for about one year and is the most desirable of the 105 series spiders by some margin. using as it does what is commonly regarded as being the best engine in the Giulia range. the 1779cc twin-cam.

Only 600 RHD cars were made in total and UK delivery cars are rare. costing as they did. more than an E-Type. With 1600 Duetto models in the condition of this example making £45. 00. this stunning and highly desirable Alfa Romeo is outstanding value at the price suggested.
