This is a very rare and desirable car. it is a 1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta SS by Bertone. It is a Left hand Drive car sold new in Italy.
Alfa Romeo's successful Giulietta range debuted in 1954 with the arrival of the Bertone-styled Sprint coupe. the Berlina saloon not appearing until the succeeding season. Veloce models with improved performance followed. and the agile Giulietta SV quickly established an enviable record in production car racing. notable victories including a Gran Turismo class win in the 1956 Mille Miglia. Nevertheless. to fully exploit the car's potential. lighter and more aerodynamic bodywork was deemed necessary. a requirement which resulted in the ultimate Giuliettas: Bertone's Sprint Special and the Sprint Zagato (SZ). both built on the short-wheelbase Spider platform and powered by the 116 bhp version of Alfa's classic. 1. 3-litre. twin-cam four.
Our car. 177008 was manufactured on 27 th June 1961 and sold on the 16 th July in La Spezia. Italy. It was finished in Special Smoke Grey. Today the car is Silver with a Red Interior which suits the car perfectly. It has been in the UK for many years and is UK registered with a new MOT and Tax.
Interior: Our car is finished in Red. with Red carpet and it is very nice indeed. the carpet is a little worn in places but the seats are nicely work in.
Exterior: Our car was painted many years ago and whilst presentable. there are some large blisters in evidence which would mean a full respray is necessary if you want a perfect car. The chrome is OK and the wheels are also OK. It has the appearance of a car restored in the eighties.
Mechanical: The car has the later 1600 cc engine fitted to Giulias which was a popular period upgrade. The car starts and drives OK but due to along period of inactivity needs further recommissioning before regular use.
Summary: This is one of those cars whose value is rocketing at the moment as people realise what an amazing car this is. It may be one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Our car is in an OK condition. although would benefit from restoration. is in a great colour scheme and must be the best value SS on the marketplace. It will not be long before SS's are regularly over £100 k.
