Ferrari unveiled the new Testarossa at the 1984 Paris Motor Show
marking the end of production of the Boxer. the car that had been
the flagship 12-cylinder Ferrari model for the previous ten years.
Styled by Pininfarina. the Testarossa paid homage to the great 50 s
sports racer that originally bore the name. simply translating as
'Red Head' the rocker covers being painted red. The mid-engined. br/>rear wheel drive configuration allowed the center of gravity to be
positioned in the middle of the car. with a weight distribution
ratio of 40% front and 60% rear. thus achieving excellent cornering
and road holding ability. The Testarossa was produced with 16''
five-spoke 'Star' alloy wheels and disc brakes fitted all round with 309 mm discs at the front and 310 mm discs at the rear. The
Testarossa was larger than its Boxer predecessor six inches wider
and some 2½ inches longer which allowed more leg room. In addition. br/>the temperature inside the cockpit was reduced as twin radiators
were mounted in the rear unlike the Boxer. where the single front
mounted radiator had plumbing from the bonnet to the engine behind
the seats. which made the cabin very hot. especially on a warm day.
The distinctive side vents were as useful as they were visually
striking. allowing excellent engine ventilation. whilst
contributing to the car's unique styling.
Beautifully displayed in Rossa Corsa red with Tan Leather
interior. this example of Ferrari's Testarossa was originally a
Southern California car that was brought to the Midwest of the
United States in late 2011. In August 2012 and at 60. 86 miles this
example had an extensive engine-out service by Norwood Performance
in Dallas. Texas. entailing £30. 00 of service items fuse block
and relay rebuild. repacking and replacing of all four axle boots
and an air conditioning service. In June 2013 the vehicle also
passed a strict Texas emissions test and in August last year had
new BFG G-Force Sport Comp 2 tyres fitted at 60. 30 miles. all
demonstrating exceptional recent ownership and care of the car. Its
4. 9-Litre 390 bhp flat-12 Ferrari Colombo engine. Offered with an
up-rated stereo and alarm system. leather bound manual and backup
PDF printout. combined with original factory tool and jack-kit. br/>this fine example of the popular Pininfarina styled icon is
attractively priced given the recent values achieved for this
marque.
