In the fall of 1992 the final development of the single-Turbo 911. the 964 Turbo 3. 6. was introduced at the Paris Autoshow.
This 3. 6 L engine replaced the 3. 3 L powerplant of the earlier 964 Turbos – the 964 was always designed to take the new 3. 6 L engine but budget and time restraints meant that the first years of the 964 Turbo had the ‘old' engine.
This new 911 Turbo engine. now with 360 hp. had 390 lb/ft of torque (vs. 330 lb/ft for the 3. 3 L). which gave the car noticeably improved performance as well as better driveability and emissions.
Car and Driver managed a 0-60 mph in 4. 0 sec. the more conservative Road & Track got 4. 5 sec with a ¼ mile in 12. 4 sec at 114 mph.
Top speed was 180 mph.
18” 3-piece Speedline alloys and ‘Big Red' brakes completed the package.
Ride height was lowered 20 mm (except for US vehicles).
This car. being a ROW (Japanese Market) car. has the lowered ride height.
In the calendar year of 1993 Porsche made 1. 55 examples and there were a final 28 produced in early 1994.
US cars started production in March 1993. as 1994 Model year cars.
The Turbo 3. 6 was priced at DM 204. 00 in Germany. and $99. 00 in the US before Luxury and Gas Guzzler tax. This car has a production date of April 19. 1993. and the Vin places it midway between 50 production sequence for ROW 964 3. 6 Turbos.
The US VIN sequence is 88.
In Summary. this was Porsche's fastest and best handling and best braking 911 Turbo to date.
It stands as the final evolution of the single Turbo. RWD. 911 Turbo.
It is also one of the rarest variants with only about 1. 00 produced. They made about 4. 00 964 3. 3 Turbos. 6. 00 993 Turbos. and 15. 00 930 Turbos by comparison.
If you look at other collectible Porsches built in similar quantities you could look to the 1973 911 RS (1. 08 Touring and 200 Lightweight). the 964 RS Coupe (2. 82 produced). 911 Carrera 3. 2 Speedster (2. 74 produced).
The Excellence Magazine 2015/2016 Buyers Guide. lists the price range for a #2 Condition 964 Turbo 3. 6 at between $160. 00-260. 00.
This compares to a 1989 911 Turbo at $100 k-$175 k. a 1976/77 911 Turbo at $90 k-$175 k. and a 993 TT at $80 k-$200 k.
While there is a wide range of valuation between individual examples. it is clear that the lowest production variant. the 3. 6. is worth the most money by a considerable margin.

About this car.
This 3. 6 Turbo came out of a Japanese collection. and landed with a Victoria BC collector. It was traded in on a new Lamborghini. and Porsche Centre Calgary purchased it from them after negotiating with the owner of the car. PCC completed a major service on the car. with the service invoice totalling $9. 65. and a parts invoice totalling another $1. 00.
The engine was removed from the car. the valves adjusted. plugs. Dist Cap and Rotor replaced. belts replaced. several minor oil leaks tended to including differential side seals. new alternator hub bearing. and a new clutch and pressure plate were installed.
The car was given a high-level detail. and shows magnificently.
What is truly impressive about the car is how spotless the car is both topside and underside-and not as a result of a mammoth disassemble-the-car detailing effort – this is the way the car came to us.
When the engine was removed the car looked like the car had just been manufactured.
There was almost no dirt. dust or corrosion that had accumulated in the engine bay. inside the fenders. in the trunk cavity or inside the wheels.
If the car showed 10. 00 miles on the odometer it would be believable.
It looks like the car has never seen any type of inclement weather or dusty roads in its entire life.
Inside. the leather dash. seats and console are still supple and show no signs of heat shrinkage common on most dry climate Cars.
The leather has never been painted. and still retains its original aroma and porosity.
The switchgear is perfect. The carpets and headliner are perfect.
Overall the car is a very solid 9. 5/10 and it wouldn't take much to bring it up to a perfect 10.
Close examination of the underside of the vehicle and inspection of the inner fenders reveals absolutely no signs of accident damage or paint work.
Every rubber seal and trim piece and every clip and fastener appears factory original and untouched.
The only signs of any wear. any place on the car are on the windscreen which has some slight pits. and there is some slight rash on the leading edge of the rear fenders which is common on these cars.
We elected to leave the original paint. though the fenders could easily be refinished.
The only other fault with the car is that the original radio has been replaced with a modern replacement. We have the original Japanese Service/warranty manual. and several recent work orders.
