1955 SUNBEAM TALBOT 90  SERIES III. 52K MILES. ORIGINAL/RESTORED. SUPER CONDITION.  NEW MOT. ORIGINAL REGISTRATION  NUMBER:- OVJ 444

This is one of the last of the fantastic Sunbeam Talbot “90” models . originally designed for the new post war Sunbeam models and was one of the last produced by Rootes Group Motors in 1955. The car is a Series III model. fitted with the 2. 26 liter four cylinder engine. manual column change gearbox and overdrive unit. These cars were capable of 90mph in their day and this one can still do a comfortable 70-80 mph on the motorway and the engine is very quiet and still responsive even at that speed.

Finished in original “Sage Green” upper half and recently resprayed “Apple Green” bottom  half and wheels. the car has been restored to its original  condition. The interior is the original grey leather with matching carpets in generally very good condition. The fantastic “art deco” dashboard and instruments (see pictures) are all original  and all in working condition. The Sunbeam body design includes rear hinged rear “suicide” doors (see photo).

First class condition mechanically and bodily – she will come with new MOT until 04/2014 . Great investment  and also a fantastic car to drive.   Totally reliable. free road tax (currently taxed until 04/2013) . low cost classic insurance  and runs on unleaded petrol with occasional additive. The car has to be seen to be admired as the pictures don't do it justice and the car should be seen and driven to be fully appreciate its condition. performance and comfort.

Original specification includes:- Factory sunroof (which doesn't leak by the way). Overdrive on 3rd &4th gears. Leather seats and trim. Fog & spot lamps. period combined door mirror and searchlight (see photo). Also a set of “Ace” alluminium  wheel trims (in the boot) . which were removed when the wheels were recently re-painted (but can be re-fitted). Improvements to the original include a 12v Alternator and heavy duty battery. Comes with original handbook and Sunbeam Motors sales brochure (note showroom price when new was 1. 47. 1s. 1d- not a cheap car. even in 1955!!)

I purchased the car over 1 year ago from the previous owner in Cornwall . who had owned the car for over 10 years and used it mainly to attend steam fairs and shows in Devon & Cornwall.  Prior to this. she  had been stored unused for many years since the early 1970's. Because of this. the registration document expired and although she has the original registration number (OVJ 444) . the re-registration date is 1983 (nb many cars of this era had similar treatment by the DVLA at that time). The car required a light body restoration. which was undertaken by one of Bristol's leading bodyshops and involved the respray of the original “Apple Green” paintwork below the “waistline”. As you can see from the photos. the final result is stunning.

She is a really great car to drive. smooth engine. quiet gearbox with excellent synchromesh and everything else is in working order.   Original  2260cc engine runs as sweet as a nut on unleaded petrol and starts first time even in recent cold weather . No oil leaks from engine/gearbox and exhaust is very clean (nb recent new exhaust system). As mentioned. I will send her for MOT test next week. so she will be sold with a full 12 months  MOT certificate.

Please telephone me on 0117 9671030 or mobile 07527242859  for more information or for an appointment to view/inspect before the bidding ends. Inspection is welcomed prior to bidding. Please remember the car is 58 years old and potential buyers should satisfy themselves of its condition and my description; also they are welcome to contact the bodyshop which carried out the restoration to verify everything which has been done. I am very easy to find . being  located in Kingswood. Bristol. close to the junction of the A420 (Bristol Chippenham Road) and the A 4174 (East Bristol Ring Road). about 5 miles from M4  Junction  18 (A46 turnoff).

The car is not advertised elsewhere and will be sold to the highest bidder once the reserve has been met. The reserve reflects the car's condition and the amount which has been recently spent on the restoration work. Genuine bidders only please. Cash on collection or bank transfer prior to collection and the winner must contact me within 24 hours of close of bidding to arrange to pay 10% deposit with balance in cash on collection. The car must be collected and fully paid before 20th April.

I am a genuine ebay seller (please see my record of transactions) and expect to receive only genuine bids.   Any bidders with less than 10 previous purchases must contact me before bidding.  Genuine reason for sale ( I am about to lose my secure storage unit) and I have several other cars for sale on ebay this week.
