For sale by auction on Saturday 29 August 2015 with Historics at Brooklands. Brooklands Motor Racing Circuit. Weybridge. Surrey. Call 01753 639170
The TR 5 was built for a 13-month period between August
1967 and September 1968 in Coventry. England. Visually identical to
the Michelotti styled TR 4. the TR 5 hid the main differences under
the body. The most significant change was the 2. 5-litre
straight-six fuel-injected engine developing around 150 bhp and
which was carried forward to the TR 6. At the time. fuel injection
was uncommon in road cars. Triumph claimed in their sales brochure
that it was the 'First British production sports car with petrol
injection'. This engine could propel the TR 5 from 0-50 mph in just
6. 5 seconds and on to a top speed of 125 mph. Standard equipment
included front disc brakes. independent rear suspension. rack and
pinion steering and a four speed gearbox. The available optional
extras included overdrive. wire wheels and a hard top with
detachable roof panel - known as the Surrey Top.
Described by the vendor as in very good condition throughout. this
TR 5 has been extensively rebuilt over the last three years and has
recently been put back into regular use with Mo T to May 2016. The
car had been in storage since the early 1980's until it was
acquired in late 2012. The car has received a full body off repaint
in its original Valencia Blue. It comes with a Heritage Certificate
and benefits from a stainless steel exhaust system. Bosch fuel pump
conversion (including wiring upgrade). electronic ignition. br/>overdrive on two. three & four. stainless-steel bumpers. br/>completely rebuilt brakes and nearly new tyres. There are
photographs detailing the work carried out and several thousand
pounds worth of receipts to substantiate the work done to
re-commission the car over the vendor's ownership. The wheels are
about to be replaced with brand new chrome items and. of course. br/>this fine-looking TR 5 sports the. now extremely scarce. br/>Surrey-Top.
