1963 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III for sale
Current customer rating:
For sale by auction on Saturday 29 August 2015 with Historics at Brooklands. Brooklands Motor Racing Circuit. Weybridge. Surrey. Call 01753 639170
Launched in 1962. the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III and its
Bentley S 3 equivalent employed the 6. 2 litre aluminium-alloy V 8
engine first introduced in the Silver Cloud II although with larger
carburettors. new distributor and raised compression ratio. It also
came with a four-speed GM derived automatic gearbox as standard
equipment. Most obvious among many changes from the preceding
models were the adoption of four headlamp lighting. the absence of
sidelights from the wing tops and a slightly lower radiator shell.
Inside there was improved accommodation with separate front seats
and increased room for rear passengers. Notable as the last
mainstream Rolls-Royce to employ a separate chassis. the Silver
Cloud III remained in production until superseded by the
unitary-construction Silver Shadow in late 1965. The Cloud
represented a supremely elegant design and is often regarded as the
last true Rolls-Royce.
It is rare to find such a straight a car as this. I should. br/>however. qualify this statement the documented history is
incontestable and it is an un-restored example.
It is
important to note that this has been owned by one man. from new. br/>until the day he died in 1980. It was then placed under sheets at
the family home and transferred into his wife's name. In May this
year. it was transported to a local Mo T testing station where. with
a fresh master cylinder hose. some brake fluid and new fuel. br/>it fired up and passed. The engine ticks over smoothly and there is
no smoke from the exhaust. Whilst this is definitely a family car. br/>it has also suffered from some corrosion over the wheel arches and
sills in the intervening years. An honest example that does require
some love and comes complete with the original guarantee and
associated personal letter from the Rolls-Royce factory
manager.
Interested parties should note that the original
registration number. 1 CHR. is available separately and by private
treaty.
