A lovely example. sound. correct and finished in a delightful colour combination of midnight blue and silver. with blue leather interior. which suits the car well. Smart. well presented. without being 'over the top' cosmetically. and just right to use and enjoy. The car has benefited from good maintenance. which has recently included attention to brakes. new heater matrices and blower motor. new fuel pumps. new tyres. etc. etc. A history file accompanies the car. confirming this work and more besides. The owner of the last three years has used and enjoyed the car. and drove it down to us from the north of Scotland. more than 400 miles. and it didn't miss a beat! Ready to go.

Chassis No. SEV257. Reg No. EWJ36. £39. 00.

Snippets: Operation Mincemeat: EWJ36 refers to the 1st owner of SEV257 - Ernest Whitley-Jones (1890/1965) who in 1943 when he was Joint General-Manger of Lloyds Bank played a vital role in the WWII deception known as “Operation Mincemeat”. This was one of the strangest & perhaps the most successful WWII deception ever carried out. The plan was devised by Ewen Montagu (Naval Intelligence) & Charles Cholmondeley (MI) & involved deploying a dead “Officer” with a briefcase chained to his wrist containing official documents which should. hopefully. convince the Germans that the Allies planned to invade Greece and not Sicily. The cast of characters involved in this elaborate web of deception included a beautiful secretary. a dead Welsh tramp. a transvestite English spymaster. a gold prospector & Ian Fleming! In order to convince the Germans that the corpse found floating off the coast of Spain was a genuine Royal Marine Officer. British Intelligence had to create a convincing life story for the body! Accordingly the body of a Welsh Tramp (Glyndwr Michael) was re-invented as Captain W. Martin. RM Id Nr 148228. a batchelor with a beautiful girlfriend & a love of the good life which resulted in him having financial problems. In order to ensure that Capt Martin would pass scrutiny by the enemy his pockets were filled with personal everyday items - photos of his girlfriend “Pam”. house keys. a bus ticket. a silver cross & a letter from his bank. The letter having been signed by Ernest Whitley-Jones who had been approached by Montague & Cholmondeley to write an angry letter about an imaginary overdraft to a non-existent client! The ruse worked and since then numerous articles. books & TV programmes have been made about Operation Mincement & in 1956 the film “The Man Who Never Was” was released. In 2011 Cohen Media Group acquired the film rights to Ben Macintyre's book “Operation Mincemeat”.
