The DB 6 was launched at the London Motor Show in 1965 following
on from the highly successful DB 5. immortalized by the 1964 James
Bond film 'Goldfinger'.
The front end of the DB 6 was visually similar to the DB 5 but
closer inspection revealed quite a different car. The wheelbase was
lengthened allowing additional passenger space in the rear along
with a raised roof line. The profile of the rear quarter lights
echoed those of the DB 4 GT Zagato. a styling theme that continued
through to the DBS and V 8 models until production finished in 1990.
Both front and rear bumpers were split into two pieces and the rear
of the car was re-styled with a Kamm tail which helped reduce
aerodynamic drag and gave the car more stability at speed.
The engine remained the same as the DB 5 unit. a 3995 cc twin
overhead cam straight six with triple SU carburetors producing a
claimed 282 bhp. The Vantage version offered a claimed 325 bhp
utilising triple Weber carburetors. Options included air
conditioning power assisted steering and a full length Webasto
sunroof.
This righthand drive automatic DB 6 Mk. I saloon is finished in
dark blue coachwork with a deep red leather interior. AVG 201 D has
been driven on a regular basis and in recent times. has been
maintained by Beeches Garage in Farnham. Supplied with a number of
Mo T test certificates indicating the mileage to be correct at just
over 43. 00. this 'comfortable' example appears to have travelled
just 130 miles within the last ten years. Whilst it could benefit
from sympathetic refreshment. it represents a very useable example
and has a current Mo T test certificate with which to attest. The
engine is reported to run well with a strong oil pressure and the
original 8-Track stereo can still be found in position. Supplied
with some history. a current V 5 C. just two recorded former keepers
and a most appealing colour combination. this represents an
attractive example that can be used immediately.
