1969 Plymouth Road Runner

History

The Plymouth Road Runner was a performance car built by the Plymouth division of the Chrysler Corporation in the United States between 1968 and 1980. Although Plymouthalready had a performance car in the GTX. designers decided to go back to thedrawing board and reincarnate the original muscle car concept. Plymouth wanteda car able to run 14-second times in the quarter mile (402 m) and sell for lessthan US$3000. Both goals were met. and the low-cost muscle car hit the street.

The 1969 model keptthe same basic look but with some slight changes such as tail lights andgrille. side marker lights. optional bucket seats. and new Road Runner decals. The Road Runner added a convertible option for 1969 with 2128 droptop modelsproduced that year. All were 383 engine cars. except for ten 426 ci Hemiconvertible cars. Six of those Hemi convertibles were automatics and four werefour-speed manual transmissions. Six are known to exist. No 440 6-bblconvertibles were made in 1969.

This gorgeous Road Runner was an award winner at the 2013 Detroit Autorama! The previous owner ofthis beautiful Mopar owned the car for four years. He was the third owner. Hebought the car from his uncle who owned it for the previous 25 years. The carhas been in Michigan its entire life. A full restoration was done in 2010/2011. At the time of the restoration some metal work was done. The owner has overthirty years of bodywork experience. his son recently graduated from Washtenaw Community College's automotive program.
