Mercedes-Benz : 400-Series 6.9 for sale
Current customer rating:
Up for sale my Mercedes 6. 9. Loved and loathed by the Bringatrailer faithful after nearly 5 years of ownership it is time to sell. Reason being my 2 year old daughter makes time with my cars less important (if not impossible).
Car was imported by myself from California and a colour high resolution copy of the title comes with the car making it a very simple re-import to the USA. These vehicles are have now firmed in value and in keeping with other such cars of this marque (6. 3. Pagoda etc. ) prices are now rising. With a worldwide production of just over 7000 and less than 2000 made in this year. as with any low volume Mercedes this is one for the not too distant future. Values are much higher in other parts of the world and I am happy to help with shipping to Europe. Middle East etc. As a potential investment. this car benefits from having the original bill of sale and supply documents.
Vehicle exterior. Paint and chrome shine well. No rust visible but there is a small area of bubbling below each A pillar. These have remained unchanged during my ownership and visible in close up pictures. Underside is clean. There is some flaking of the chrome on the wheels and whilst mentioning I feel that the tyres will be in need of a change.
Vehicle interior. Seats are in good overall condition with less than average 'patina' for leather seats in a car this age. There is one crack in the dash which is very linear and the dash is not faded/warped. The rear parcel shelf is faded. All gauges work fine and there is the state of the art period car phone.
Driving. Car starts up fine without issue and settles quickly to an idle. Car pulls away without gearbox issues and stops well and in a straight line. The suspension holds position and if anything seems a little taught compared to other cars which seem to droop on their hydrolelastic suspension. It should be noted that there is a receipt for the front 'spheres' in 1989 which I am sure is much more in 2014.
Known faults. As well as mentioned above I should point out that the sunroof has been increasingly difficult to close. At first. cleaning the contacts at the dash switch helped. It may be a faulty switch but you should be aware of this. I am not sure if this car has a motor to open and a motor to close (which I doubt) but the roof closes using the mechanical closing gear in the trunk. The cars dipstick is an unusual design. rather like a wine bottle sealing device. The rubber seems a little perished and the mechanism loose and doesn't may a good seal. Possibly an easy fix or new from Mercedes. The rubber add on to the enormous bumpers are a little warped.
Car is stored with my others in Glencoe. Ontario. Through experience I know that shipping companies can take a while to collect. Car can be stored free for first 6 weeks. thereafter $100 per month. I would suggest Mackie for an excellent service. Please deposit via Paypal and balance wired within 7 days.
