1907 De Dion Bouton 10 hp AV Twin rear entrance tonneau.

Engine Number: 3564 B
Registration number: EW 1087
A perfect Creepy Crawley Veteran Car Club entrant. This 10 hp Dedion Bouton is an absolute delight. from the patinated leather front seats to the brass festooned coachwork & is in fine fettle.
The car starts easily off the handle. After priming the Carburetor. two suction stokes are required. The magneto is then set to live & on the third pull. off she goes. The 1. 2 ish litre engine is a twin cylinder unit giving a decent turn of speed & making the ensemble readily able to tackle hills. albeit not at a greyhounds pace. On the flat in third it pulls well & runs at gentle B road speeds Our one brief sojourn on dual carriageway up a hill elicited glares from Essex's finest. but not so much so as to warrant pulling us over.
The body is a delightful four seat affair with bulges & curves in all the right places. Ingress to the rear quarters are from a central rear door. The seats at the back have been recently upholstered. but in a leather that does a good job of replicating the far far older front seats which are just as we like them & a joy to behold. The car has in recent years been lurking in a collection in Kent where it shares a barn with 7 other vehicles of similar vintage all of whom are regularly exercised & kept in tip top order.
Driving the car is a touch unconventional. but easily mastered. The gear lever has a button on it which when depressed engages reverse rearwards & first forwards when released second is found rearwards with third engaged forwards. Once stared & the governor fully opened the engine is always at full power & speed is moderated by use of a decelerator where one might more conventionally expect to find an accelerator. Once this concept is mastered. it makes for an easy driving experience.
The car sits on wooden artillery wheels & boasts a full compliment of Lucas "King of the road" lamps. A brass plaque advertises the body as having been made by Grenier & Mercier of 233 Blvd Voltaire in Paris. The car is VCC dated. certificate number 1864.
