1958 Buick Century Caballero Estate Wagon

Last year of the Caballero! One of only 4. 56 built for 1958! Previously a California car with 61. 00 original miles! Numbers matching 364 ci V 8 mated to a smooth-shifting Automatic! Tons of chrome. power steering and power brakes! Who doesn't love a pink wagon?!?

While not the first to the hardtop wagon game (that credit goes to the 1956 AMC). Buick arrived with a bang in 1957.

Based on the Century chassis but with a stylish 50 s roofline. the B pillar-less hardtop Caballero made quite an impression on those affluent buyers who needed the cargo capacity but also needed the flair factor.

The 1957 Caballero was a niche vehicle from the beginning. with a $3706 base price and limited availability through select dealers throughout the country.

Under the hood was a beefy 364 ci V 8 with 10:1 compression that yielded 300 horsepower and enough torque to get this 4. 98 pound wagon moving down the road at a good clip.

The car had a complete refresh halfway through its two-year lifespan which included the newly mandated quad headlight setup and even more chrome than the ‘57 s.

All said and done. production fell from 10. 86 Caballeros in 1957 to only 4. 56 in '58 before Buick axed the project. citing increased financial constraints and retooling costs.

The lion-hearted Caballero's short existence. scarcity and overall elegance have made it quite the collectible piece today!

The St. Louis Car Museum is very excited to offer this 1958 Buick Century Caballero Estate Wagon! Finished in its original color scheme of Reef Coral with White Roof. this car screams 1950 s style from a mile away! Inside. you will also find yourself in the original color configuration of Tan and Beige vinyl.

This Caballero still maintains its original 364 ci V 8 and Dynaflow Automatic Transmission.

In addition to a host of standard features including 60/40 split folding rear seat. dual hinged tailgate. chrome roof rails and acres of chrome trim. this Buick is further fitted with power steering. power brakes. heater/defrost. door edge guards. dome light. rear window rain diverters and more! Included are custom floor mats and a fitted trunk mat.

The car rides on styled steel Buick hubcaps with L 78-15 Denman Classic IV wide whitewall tires!

This Buick shows 61. 13 miles. which the previous California owner has told us is original to the car.

We know that the car was bought new at Moore Buick in Walla Walla. Washington the dealer badge on the trunk lid is still proudly affixed.

This car was cosmetically restored 15 years ago. receiving magnificent repaint that included the removal and redoing of all chrome and pot metal trim.

Furthermore. the interior was also done at this time.

Finally. the transmission was also serviced at this time to ensure the car as a reliable driver.

Today. it shows exceptionally well and would likely fool a trained eye into thinking the restoration was a decade fresher than it is.

It fires right up with minimal pedal pumping and glides down the road.

The motor is more than up for moving this heavy icon of style down the street and the steering. brakes and rear coilover suspension setup are very confidence-inspiring.

Included with the car is a spare tire in the trunk. as well as a Buick Body Service Manual and Chassis Service Manual.

This car was featured in the April 12. 1993 issue of Auto Week magazine “Station Wagon Chic”.

This Buick is ready for road trips. parades or shows immediately and we don't suspect it will be here very long! Please don't hesitate to ask any additional questions on this fantastic Caballero!
