1947 MG TC
Built in February 1947 at Abingdon. this TC was bought by an American soldier who. when he returned to his native California. took the car back with him.
He kept the car for years. eventually using it to carry his golf clubs around his golf club until they asked him to stop! The TC then went into storage until it was found by a British gentleman living in Alberta. Canada who set about sympathetically restoring the car. retaining as many original parts as possible an easy task thanks to the kind climate of California.
Fifteen years ago. with its owner in failing health. the MG was purchased by its last owner who looked after and enjoyed the car before returning it to Britain when he came over here for work.
Since it has been back in the UK. the TC has been to Peter Edney who replaced various brake components. kingpins and hub seals. along with coolant hoses. gaskets and throttle linkages.
Its registered in the UK with 12 months Mo T and 12 months tax.
This is a remarkably original TC. It retains its original bodywork. chrome and wood frame. The chassis is perfectly straight. original and unrepaired. The engine is the original ‘matching numbers' unit.
Whilst the paintwork is imperfect it has a lovely patina and still looks smart as you can see in the photos. The chrome is excellent and the car retains its original headlamps. Generally the car has a wonderful feel about it.
The wheels have been refurbished and wear correct crossply tyres with excellent tread.
On the road the TC is a delight. The engine is sweet and willing. the gearbox is unusually superb and it's great fun to dash around the lanes in.
A lovely TC that we would leave exactly as it is. It just needs to be used and enjoyed.
