The Triumph TR 6 was produced between 1969 and 1976 and by the
time production ended that July. it was the best-seller of the TR
range however this record was then surpassed by the angular TR 7.
In total 94. 19 TR 6 s were built of which 86. 49 were sold overseas
and only 8. 70 were sold in the UK. The bodywork closely resembled
that of the previous model. the Triumph TR 5. but the front and rear
were squared off and all TR 6's featured inline six-cylinder
engines. The TR 6 featured a four-speed manual transmission and an
optional equipment overdrive unit was a desirable feature because
it gave drivers close-gearing for spirited driving whilst remaining
an excellent touring car for open motorways. It also featured
independent rear suspension. rack and pinion steering. 15 inch
wheels and tyres. pile carpet on the floors and boot. bucket seats. br/>and a full complement of instruments.
Owned by the current vendor since 1992. this TR 6 is a much loved
example and is being sold reluctantly after such a long period of
ownership. When purchased by the vendor. the car was used regularly
each summer. however. it was off the road between 2007 and 2011.
Upon re-commissioning the TR 6 had £3. 00 worth of work carried that
included a new fuel tank. new injectors. rebuilding the fuel pump. br/>and replacing the front brake callipers as well as a full engine
tune. A new set of Continental tyres have recently been fitted and
the starter motor overhauled. Finished in Mimosa with brown trim
and fitted with an overdrive unit. this Triumph is supplied with
its original registration plate of TYM 7 M. Currently Mo T'd until
August 2015. although SORN. this TR 6 is ready to enjoy immediately
throughout the rest of the summer. Having covered only 76. 18 miles
from new and very realistically priced given the sale of recent
TR 6's. this could well prove to be a bargain.
