-Overdrive and it is functioning properly

-Factory auxiliary oil cooler

-Is very solid and it is painted its original color

-Very presentable cosmetically exterior and interior wise

This Alpine overall is in its original specification.

The paint color is the unique Orchid Green. code 109. which compliments the Sunbeam very nicely and makes it stand out from the crowd.

The Sunbeam Alpine Owners Club mentions that this is a quite rare color.

This is a well sorted vehicle that is ready to be enjoyed as is.

Drives straight and smooth.

Car looks slick! Really is attractive.

The paint does look nice and does reflect.

Exterior:

As stated. the finish on this Alpine is the original Orchid Green color. code 109. as evidenced by the VIN tag and original factory applied paint found on some areas of the body.

The current repaint is overall in very presentable condition and shows some wear/aging in some spots.

The finish and detail of the body work is not of “Concours” quality but yet is still much better than basic “driver” quality. and shows very well.

It does look as good as it does in the pictures and video.

Having a father as an automotive painter and having restored classic cars with him. I tend to be overly critical in my evaluation of a finish.

The finish and body work looks practically perfect from about 6 feet away or if this vehicle is in motion.

With closer inspection. it still looks very nice but with some wear to be noted.

The most significant is limited to the front of the hood.

There are numerous pencil tip size specks of paint coming off.

They can be seen in a zoomed in picture but again when about 6 feet away. is not really noticeable.

This is not occurring on any other body panels.

On the center of the trunk lid there are some areas of discoloration that can only be noticed at certain angles and with certain light.

It is not significant enough to show in pictures.

The antenna hole on the passenger fender was deleted and a ring in that area just barely shows.

There are a few minor areas of “buffer burn” like around by the tail lamps and a dime size spot on the passenger door.

Those areas would look fine touched up.

The lower part of the driver fender has some. what look to be scrapes touched up. not bondo rust blisters.

Driver rear wheel well inside lip paint is thin.

There are the expected typical chips and minor scratches as well throughout.

Some of the chips right behind the wheels have started to oxidize and could be touched up it is not significant body rot.

There are a couple larger type chips already touched up on the tops of the rear quarter panels and they are pictured.

Again. this is all wear from age and use and does not distract from the overall presentation of the car.

The lower parts of the body feature a chip guard for protection.

The finish on the flatter. up facing panels (ex: hood. trunk lid. tops of fenders. etc. ) is very smooth and lacks significant texture.

The sides of the car (ex: doors. rear quarters. etc. ) are very presentable but when looking down the side of the car with certain lighting. an experienced auto enthusiast will see some minor dings and a little less smoothness than the more critical upper facing areas.

This paint still has a nice shine to it throughout.

The paint color itself matches on all the body panels in terms of tint.

The paint color itself is attractive on this car and suites the quirky British personality of the Sunbeam very well.

Overall. the finish is very presentable. still very above average in its current condition. lacks significant amateur defects (ex: runs. fish eyes. overspray). and can be greatly enjoyed as it is.

It is more than presentable enough to be brought to car shows. British car club events. and the like.

The body on this Alpine is impressive.

It has a very solid body and undercarriage.

The chassis looks spectacular.

It does not look to have ever been repaired or in an accident.

The limited spots of oxidation that exist on the body look to be from aged chips and are very insignificant/typical.

Notice the pictures of the magnet on the body.

The door jambs and door lips are amazingly clean.

The doors themselves open and close exceptionally smooth.

The trunk lip. jamb. and floor is also amazingly clean.

The underside of the hood. hood lips. and general engine bay area is extremely presentable.

The paint is excellent.

Other equipment in the engine bay is very presentable.

Note the picture of where the passenger wheel well meets the firewall is dust. not rust.

The battery box is rock solid.

Body gaps throughout are very nice.

The wheels with trim rings are in nice condition. and I believe them to be MG units.

The chrome and trim is excellent throughout.

The bumpers look to be new/re-chromed.

Lenses throughout are very nice. reverse lights are still the proper glass lenses.

The emblems look nice.

Much of the weather-stripping looks to have been replaced.

Windshield and side glass is very nice.

The convertible top looks newer with a near crystal clear back window.

The factory hardtop is in very nice condition and looks slick on these cars.

Again. overall. the body on this Sunbeam Alpine is quite impressive.

It presents itself very well and is very attractive.

Interior:

There is not much to note about the interior.

It is in excellent condition showing limited use/aging.

The dash pad and front part of the dash is excellent.

Gauges look great.

Steering wheel is upgraded and looks great.

Carpet looks newer.

Seat covers are in nice condition.

Door panel material is great.

The passenger side could use some attention to flatten it out.

Shifter boot is great.

Ashtray is great.

The top cover is presentable.

This is a very nice condition interior that can be enjoyed as is.

Mechanical:

The odometer shows 6. 50 miles.

The car shows evidence of having traveled more miles than that but evidence does not imply it has traveled 106. 50 miles (ex: The doors open and close so nicely. there would be more wear to those components if having traveled 100. 00+ miles).

The current owner of this Alpine also bought it from a collector who was believed to be the third owner.

The current owner has put on less than 1. 00 miles in his four years of ownership.

It looks like many components were replaced during the restoration of this Alpine and the speedometer might have been one of those items.

Records are absent so true mileage is unknown.

This Alpine is in very nice mechanical repair and has been maintained and under the professional care of Ajax Restorations.

The 1725 cc engine starts up nicely and runs like it should.

The dual carburetors have been upgraded to a single and simpler Webber unit.

Waterpump recently replaced.

Regular oil changes of course.

This Alpine does have the factory oil cooler.

The car accelerates easily and sounds like a proper British sports car should.

Under harder acceleration. there is some puffing from oil blow by.

The gauges hold steady where they should.

The transmission shifts as it should.

First gear from the factory lacks a synchro so double clutching and or shifting carefully into first at idle is required.

The rest of the gears are fine.

The differential does not make excessive noise.

The electronic overdrive functions properly.

It can be applied to 3 rd and 4 th gear above a certain speed.

The exhaust is newer.

Radiator and other engine systems/accessories are in good repair.

The brakes function properly.

The suspension does not exhibit signs of significant wear and rides very nicely.

The tires are newer and in excellent condition.

This Alpine is ready to be enjoyed as it is and should only need regular maintenance for some time.

Just hop in. start it up. drive and enjoy!

Conclusion:

These Sunbeam Alpines are neat little cars.

They are a great alternative to the more common British sports cars out there and offer quite unique styling.

Support and parts for these cars are readily available.

Victoria British is a main parts supplier and parts can of course be found elsewhere online.

Sunbeam Tiger prices are rapidly increasing and bringing the Alpine prices up with them.

This example still offers great value for being a well sorted. solid. nicely driving. and being a very presentable classic machine.

It comes with two very desirable and functional features: a factory hard top and overdrive transmission.

This is one of the best Alpines currently on the market.

It is offered for your consideration at an asking price of $17. 00.
