THE CAR IS ORIGINAL. IT HAS NOT BEEN FRESHENED UP OR TOUCHED UP. NO RESPRAY. ORIGINAL AND UNRESTORED. YOU WILL BE HARD PRESSED TO FIND ANOTHER ONE LIKE THIS ONE READ ON
THE FIRST OWNER WAS MR. HANK CARLINI; THE CAR WAS BUILT AT THE TIME HE WAS STATIONED AT THE GHIA OPERATIONS AND VIGNALE AS THE FORD MOTOR CO COORDINATOR BETWEEN ALL USA AND ITALIAN OPERATIONS. HIS TITLE FROM 1971 -- 1974 AT VIGNALE WAS TECHNICAL DIRECTOR. HE WAS IN THE POSITION TO HAVE THE CAR HAND BUILT USING THE BEST AND SOME ONE OFF COMPONENTS.
A MARTI REPORT IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE CAR AS IT WAS NOT ORIGINALLY SOLD IN THE USA AND I SPOKE WITH RSCORSE IN MODENA ITALY THE PANTERA PEOPLE WHO HAVE MOST OF THE RECORDS FOR ALL THE CARS BUILT AND THIS IS THEIR RESPONSE " Unfortunatly we don't have a lot of info of this car. but we can tell you that was built in septeber 1972 like 1973 model. was orange outside and black inside.
Was sold to vignale and then ship in USA.

THE CAR WAS PRODUCED SEPTEMBER 10. 1972 BUT NOT COMPLETED UNTIL 1974.
THE CAR HAS HAD A WRITE UP IN THE PANTERA INTERNATIONAL MAGAZINE 2005 AND THE TITLE WAS "MYSTERY PANTERA". I HAVE THE ORIGINAL ARTICLE.
I ALSO HAVE A LETTER FROM MR. . CARLINI TO MS. CHARLENE FORD OF THE FORD FAMILY ADDRESSING THE CAR. AS SHE WAS THE 2ND OWNER.
THE CAR CAME FROM THE MAIN PLANT IN ORANGE WITH BLACK INTERIOR SEPTEMBER 1972. MR. . CARLINI HAD IT REDONE IN THE SILVER BLACK GTS THEME. ADDED THE GTS WHEEL FLAIRS. TWO TONE LEATHER INTERIOR. SPECIAL HOOD VENTS. PECIAL BADGING. GTS CLOCK. EURO RADIO. F. O. R. D IN THE GT 40 SCRIPT ON THE REAR DECK LID. THE CAR SHOULD HAVE HAD THE DETUNED LOWER COMPRESSION 351 C MOTOR BUT HE PUT IN A 1971 351C WITH HIGH COMPRESSION. THE MOTOR IS SERIALIZED TO THE CAR AND SHE WILL RUN. I DID A COMPRESSION TEST ON THE MOTOR AND DRIVERS SIDE BANK 155. 55. 60. 55 THE PASS BANK 155. 60. 75. 65.
EVERY ONE IN THE PAST HAS DONE THE RIGHT THING. USE THE CAR AND TOOK GREAT CARE OF IT.
I HAVE TAKEN MANY PICTURES. AND A FEW VIDEO LINKS ARE AT THE BOTTOM. ALL INTERIOR LIGHTS WORK. WIPERS AND THE WASHER WORK. HEADLIGHTS AND ALL RUNNING LIGHTS WORK AS THEY SHOULD. THE INTERIOR. CARPET DOOR PANELS. HEADLINER IS IN GREAT SHAPE. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE SIDE BOLSTERS OF THE SEATS AS THE PICTURES SHOW THE WEAR. NOT BAD ( MY OPINION) BUT IT DOES HAVE SOME WEAR.
WHEN YOU TAKE THE CAR COVER OFF AND OPEN THE CAR DOOR IN THE MORNING PROVIDING THAT THE WINDOWS WERE CLOSED YOU GET THAT NICE ORIGINAL LEATHER INTERIOR SMELL. YOU JUST CAN NOT BEAT IT.
THE BODY PANELS ALL LINE UP GREAT. FRONT BUMPER IS IN FANTASTIC SHAPE AS MOST OF THE DELAMINATE. NOT THIS ONE. FENDERS. DOORS AND QUARTERS VERY NICE. 1 SMALL DING ON THE DRIVERS DOOR VERY HARD TO NOTICE IN THE PICTURES. A LITTLE DING ON THE LEFT FRONT FENDER TOP ABOVE THE WHEEL AGAIN HARD TO SEE IN THE PICTURES AND THE RIGHT REAR QUARTER A SPOT THE SIZE OF A GOLF BALL WHERE IT LOOKS LIKE WAS COMPOUNDED AND RUBBED OUT TO MUCH. GOT IT THAT WAY.
THE ROOF IS IN GREAT SHAPE AND THE TRUNK LID AGAIN NICE AND STRAIGHT. THE IS SOME ALLIGATORING ON THE TRUNK LID AND ROOF YOU CAN SEE THE TRUNK LID IN THE PICTURES AND THE ROOF IS HARD TO SEE. OR YOU CAN SAY PATINA.
THE RADIO IS A EUROPEAN MODEL WITH ROOF MOUNT ANTENNA. IT TURNS ON BUT DOES NOT RECEIVE ANY STATIONS. DTS ON THE SHIFT KNOB AND GTS ON THE RIM CENTER. F-O-R-D- SCRIPT ON THE REAR DECKLID IN FORD GT40 LETTERING AND SPECIAL BADGING. ALL GAUGES ARE IN NICE SHAPE AND WORK AS THEY SHOULD. SAME WITH THE SWITCHES. WINDOWS WORK. AND THE DASH LIGHTS WORK ALONG WITH THE REOSTAT. FACTORY GTS CLOCK IN WORKING ORDER. THERE IS A MASTER BATTERY SWITCH WHICH IS RIGHT NEXT TO THE BATTERY AFTERMARKET BUT LOOKS LIKE IT BELONGS. DASH PAD IN EXCELLENT SHAPE ALONG WITH ALL VENTS
ALL GLASS IS ORIGINAL AND IN GREAT SHAPE. WINDSHIELD WIPERS ORIGINAL WITH THE WIND SPOILER ATTACHED. WIPERS WORK ON BOTH SPEEDS AND THE WASHER WORK.
THE SERIAL NUMBERS ARE ALL IN THE CORRECT PLACES AND THE LAST 4 DIGITS OF THE SERIAL # ARE ALSO ON THE HEADLIGHT BUCKETS WHICH SHOWS THEY ARE ORIGINAL AND THE CAR WAS NEVER IN A ACCIDENT.
UNDER THE HOOD THE BRAKE BOOSTER. CLUTCH CYLINDERS ARE IN WORKING ORDER. AFTERMARKET BATTERY WITH AN AFTERMARKET MAIN CUTOFF SWITCH. THE CARPET LOOKS TO HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT SOME TIME BEFORE I GOT IT.
THE RADIATOR WAS REBUILT IN 2004-2005 PER A CONVERSATION I HAD WITH A PAST OWNER. HE ALSO DID BRAKES AND INSTALLED THE HANCOOK VENTUS 101 TIRES WHICH ARE IN GREAT SHAPE.
THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS SUPER CLEAN ALONG WITH THE WHEEL WELLS. ALL I DID HERE IS A GOOD CLEANING. ORIGINAL FRONT END. ORIG SHOCKS. BRAKES HAVE BEEN DONE IN THE PAST AND THEY HAVE MEAT LEFT AND WILL BRING HER TO A STOP.
THE PASS SIDE INNER TIE ROD DOES HAVE SOME PLAY. EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE FRONT END IS TIGHT.
THE REAR IS JUST AS NICE. SHOCKS AND SUSPENSION ORIG. ½ SHAFTS HAVE BEEN GREASED AND THE U JOINTS ARE GREAT. NO FUNNY NOISES OR PLAY IN THE WHEEL HUBS
THE ZF SHIFTS TIGHT WITH NO NOISES AND THE CLUTCH IS TIGHT WITH NO SLIPPING.
THE 351 C RUNS OUT LIKE SHE SHOULD. I DID NEW PLUGS AND POINTS A FEW HUNDRED MILES AGO. WIRES CAP AND ROTOR WERE NEW JUST BEFORE I GOT HER. THE A/C WAS CONVERTED TO R134A. THE MOTOR DOES HAVE A LIGHT REAR MAIN SEAL LEAK.
SOMEONE PUT THE VALVE COVERS AND AIR CLEANER ON IT. I HAVE THE ORIGINALS AIR CLEANER AND VALVE COVERS COMPLETE AND IN NICE SHAPE.
ORIG HOOD SUPPORTS NEED REBUILDING. AFTERMARKET ONES ARE IN PLACE.
FACTORY HEADERS AND LOW FLOW EXHAUST WITH NEW HEADER TO PIPE DONUTS.
THE ENGINE HAS NOT BEEN TOUCHED UP AS FAR AS PAINT. GOD KNOWS I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO DO IT BUT THEN IT IS NOT ORIGINAL.
THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT INSERT IS ORIGINAL WITH ALL THE ZUSS FASTENERS. ORIG SPARE AND TIRE INFLATOR. COMPLETE TOOL KIT WITH LEATHER TOOL ROLL AND THE STRAPS ARE IN GREAT SHAPE.
CHECK OUT THE VIDEOS
IN THE LAST VIDEO MY FRIEND IS WITH ME AND HE IS 6'3 250 POUNDS AND HE FIT IN THE PASS SEAT. I AM 6"1 AND FIT IN THE DRIVERS SEAT. THE TEMP HAS BEEN IN THE 80'S AT TIME OF THE VIDEOS WITH NO OVERHEATING. SHE RUNS AT 180-190 DEGREES
ON THE WEB SITE WWW. PROVAMO. COM WEB SITE WHICH IS THE PREMIERE DeTOMASO REGISTRY SITE THE HAS A SECTION FOR FAMOUS OWNERS AND ½ DOWN THE PAGES IS THE HEADING Famous owners in DeTomaso history:

4275 is a very special car. a one-off. with some unusual features such as the unusual row of vents in the front bonnet. It was built for & originally owned by Hank Carlini. Lee Iacocca's right hand man! Its original destination was the US. It is painted in GTS livery. yet it pre-dates the US GTS's by a whole year. and may have been their prototype

Michael. the 40 1974 US - GTS's sold in California were redocumented as 1973 models. due to the fact that Ford neglected to have the 351C 4V smog certified in California for 1974. That is why you have seen some US - GTS's documented as 1973 models. They all have chassis numbers greater than 5900. which indicates they were manufactured during the 1974 production year.
6018 is also a 1974 model. but it too was titled as a 1973 model in California.
However. in the case of 4275 that has no bearing. it is most definitely a 1973 model. one of the very first L models (4269 was the first L). It was painted silver with a GTS black-out scheme. It has a row of small screened vents on the front bonnet. nothing like the Hibachi grills on DeTom's car.
The interior was done in two tone leather. chrome lettering across the rear most edge of the rear bonnet spells out F-O-R-D. It has a Euro style antenna in the middle of the roof. A Momo Prototipo steering wheel.
There is a story about the car in issue 76 of PI Magazine. page 46.

The things that differentiated an L model from a Pre-L were the motor with EGR. the impact resistant bumpers and the switch to Arriva tires. It doesn't really matter which dash it has. the dash didn't define the model. The change in dash design was just another running change. The change to a side mounted fuel filler didn't start right away either.
The L requires a different body. with pods up front for the turn signals. Its only a hunch of mine. I have no solid evidence. but since DeTomaso was a small manufacturer trying to build cars with as little waste as possible. I'd bet they didn't start using the new L-style coaches until all of the Pre-L coaches had been used up. Because once the change was made a Pre-L lacking the impact resistant bumpers would not have been capable of being sold in the US.
Now the interesting thing about the 1972-1/2 L models. they were built to comply with regulations that applied to 1973 models. In my opinion the 1972-1/2 L models should have been considered 1973 models. meaning the DeTomaso 1973 model year would have began in August 1972. half-way to being aligned with Ford's model year. But it's silly to argue that from my arm chair 40 years later. the truth remains that DeTomaso and Ford agreed to refer to the first L models as 1972-1/2 models.
GOD KNOWS I AM FORGETTING SOMETHING DO YOUR HOME WORK AS THIS IS TRULY A SPECIAL CAR.
