Supercharged for sale
Current customer rating: (411 votes ) based onMy mistake-- The lighter engine was developed in 1951 not 1957. Although Packard owned Studebaker in 57. the Golden Hawk was chosen for the lighter Studebaker motor.
On Jul-02-14 at 09:48:35 PDT. seller added the following information:To further explain and clarify the engine statement above-- the following was sent to me by an expert on the subject. I want to be very clear as to the history of the production of the engine for the Golden Hawk " 1956 Golden Hawk was powered by the heavy. 352-cu-in. . 275-hp. non-supercharged PACKARD engine. After the Studebaker-Packard merger. poroduction of this engine ceased in '56. To replace it. Studebaker developed a 289-cu-in. . 275-hp SUPERCHARGED STUDEBAKER engine. Yes. the roots of this engine went back to 1951. when Studebaker introduced a 232-cu-in. . 120-hp V-8 engine. The '57 Golden Hawk engine was an ULTIMATE evolution of that engine. And true. the Studebaker V-8 was lighter than the Packard V-8; but addition of a supercharger pretty much canceled out that advantage. "
