This custom-bodied 1972 Fiat 500 F was professionally restored in England in 2003. This restoration was fully documented with photos and a extensive of paperwork. Every receipt for new parts that were purchased has been saved. The vehicle was media blasted to start from a clean slate. New body panels and sport-inspired ground effects were installed. After the restoration. the vehicle passed the British MOT and was fully roadworthy and driven (MOT documents included in sale).

This vehicle was imported to the USA in December of 2009 (less than 4 years ago). All sales. shipping. and importation documentation has been saved and will accompany the vehicle when sold. This Fiat currently has a clear Illinois title and registration.

Exterior

There is no rust on this vehicle at all. nbsp; it is very solid. The exterior of this vehicle was painted a brilliant racing-inspired yellow. Overall. the paint is in "good" condition however; there are minor imperfections that are noticeable upon close inspection. These imperfections include paint cracking and chipping on the hood and subtle stress cracks in a few areas where the ground effect panels have been mounted to the body. There are areas where touch-up paint has been applied. Even with these slight imperfections in the paint the car is beautiful (see pictures for further detail). All glass is in very nice condition. All rubber on the vehicle was replaced when the vehicle was restored. The chrome vent window frames are original to the vehicle and one of very few parts that were not replaced during restoration. They have minor pitting visible upon close inspection. The one-piece alloy wheels are in very good condition and the tires have approximately 50% tread life remaining.

Interior

The interior was completely redone when the vehicle was restored. There are larger seats for a more comfortable ride and sportier appearance. An updated steering wheel gives the interior cabin a sportier look and feel. The carpet is in like new condition. All gauges and electrical components function as designed with no known issues. The gauge cluster is original to the vehicle. There are small spots of paint that have chipped off on the interior roof behind the passenger seat.

Engine/Gearbox

The engine is a 4-cylinder. liquid-cooled 848cc engine and 5-speed gearbox was transplanted from a British Reliant Robin. This is a reliable engine that can be easily maintained and provides significantly more power than the factory Fiat drive train. Availability of parts for maintenance are easily obtainable from eBay Motors and other internet sites. There is a power fan and radiator in the engine compartment and another radiator at the front of the vehicle. The engine starts up and runs very well with no known issues. The transmission shifts through all gears (including reverse) and clutch function very well. The cooling fan works very well and turns on when the engine reaches a predefined temperature and turns off when the engine temperature falls below that set point.

Electrical

The entire electrical system was replaced with all new wiring and components during restoration. Everything functions. as it should with no known issues. All lights. windshield wipers. and cigarette lighter function well. A new battery was installed late last year with less than 20 miles put on the vehicle since that time.

Brakes

The entire braking system was completely replaced when the vehicle was restored. A disc brake conversion kit was used for the front brakes. Synthetic DOT 5 brake fluid was used. which prevents the collection of moisture and promotes longevity of the system. The (emergency) hand brake functions well with no known issues. The braking system works well.

Drivability

This Fiat 500 starts on the first turn of the key. almost every time. It drives well and brakes well. Compared to other Fiat 500's of the same vintage. this vehicle is much faster and has better braking capabilities.

If you are looking for a very unique vehicle that has been upgraded and attracts the attention of any crowd. this is it! This vehicle runs well and requires very low maintenance. I have put less than 100 miles on this Fiat since I purchased it a few years ago. I would like to see someone enjoy this beautiful vehicle instead of it just looking good. sitting in a garage.
