The '78 Trans Am is a legendary car that will live on forever thanks to period styling. and a little help from Burt Reynolds! However the '70s were tough on all our favorite V8 vendors and power wasn't a top priority. This T/A was born with a 403 V8 and a different birthday suit. the lack of a cowl tag leads us to believe this car was built as a tribute to the SE cars of '78. This vehicle shows signs of an older restoration project but overall looks amazing.

Finished in black with the correct gold pin stripping (tape). Firebird insignia. and gold headlight trim this T/A looks the part. This car looks like it was painted and may not have started out black. The exterior is highly polished and shows a nice shine. The rocker panels. ¼ panels and fenders all look to be in very solid shape. We do not note any significant rust on the body panels. Being that the car was driven. and meant to be. it does have some scratches and chips throughout the car. Several door dings are noted on each side of the car from front to back. We noticed some small scratches on the fenders and throughout. The plastic front bumper has a couple imperfections but overall looks nice. The glass is all intact and appears to be in nice condition. Overall the body appears straight and in very nice condition. The doors appear to line up nice as does the deck lid. We noticed that the passenger side door does not open. It seems that the latch mechanism may have come disconnected inside the door panel.

Inward the SE trim follows throughout the interior. Having the deluxe interior this car has the upgraded seats and door panel trim. The black vinyl seats are in excellent condition as is the dash. door panels. and carpeting. Please view all pictures carefully as there are minor blemishes as you would expect. The polished dash bezel is also intact and in very nice shape. A true sign of the collector quality work that went into the build on this car. Power Windows. trunk release. and locks are noted along with an upgraded CD stereo. The iconic T-Tops are in great condition however they did have a slight leak when when tested. We noticed some accessory switches inside the car and we do not know what they go to. There is what appears to be a master ignition kill switch that was installed by the drivers side kick panel. When switched off it disables the ignition completely. We noticed what appears to be some water intrusion into the trunk area as you can see in the pictures. There is some rust staining on the trunk vinyl and the trunk metal shows what appears to be some surface rust.

Under the shaker hood sits a “WX” code 455 V8. Normally this motor came out of '75 and '76 cars and had a measly 200 horsepower. Being an easily modifiable motor the 455 was probably an easy choice. Having an extensive background in late model oval racing we know a powerful motor when we inspect one. this 455 pulls like a bat out of hell. We cannot be certain of the power produced but it feels and sounds very strong. It revs up nicely and drops back down to a smooth idle. The exhaust is loud and crisp and it sounds fantastic. The big block is backed by an automatic transmission that seems to shift gears smooth and quick. The brakes are functional and the pedal is relatively firm. Under the hood we note aftermarket parts from Edelbrock. Hooker. March. and several other companies. It appears that a lot of money was spent on this build. Another welcome update on the mechanicals is Vintage Air. The AC does blow and feels cooler than the outside air however. we cannot attest to it being fully functional. Underneath the car you can find updated suspension parts all tied together by 17” Snowflake wheels wrapped in sticky Kumho rubber! The car does have factory style exhaust tips and a set of mufflers however. it is far from quiet. We also noted a set of subframe connectors to help stiffen the ride up.

Although this car starts right up and appears to run well. it will need to be thoroughly inspected before hitting the road because it's been sitting in storage.
