Life is too short to drive a boring car!

1967 MG-GT Chrome bumper

VIN: GHD3L110073

Engine #: 18GB-U-H 61692

Auction Ends: Sunday at NOON.

This is a 1967. chromed bumper MG-GT. with original splined hubs. The vehicle was beautifully restored approximately 6 years ago and has been driven very sparingly since then. It's great fun to drive. and turns heads wherever it goes. The blue paint shows well. though it does have some dimpling and chips in certain areas. The interior was redone in premium black leather with blue piping. and it looks/feels excellent. The carpets were replaced as well. The fully rebuilt 4-cylinder engine runs strong. and is in an excellent state of tune. The rebuilt fully synchronized transmission shifts as it should and the clutch is in good condition. The car has an auxiliary electric fan. oil cooler and fuel pump. She starts well and runs smoothly. The chrome is excellent except for some very light pitting on the back bumper. The new tires ride on base metal wire wheels with chrome knock-offs. The brakes are new. and the car stops with authority. All mechanical systems work as they should. All gauges. horns. lights. wipers. heater. etc. work as they should. The hatch area has new carpets and holds a matching wire wheel spare tire and original jack.

The cost of reproducing this MG-GT to this level would be in excess of $25K. These early chrome bump MG's are the most desirable of this series of cars. They are a joy to drive. and give the driver the classic roadster experience. All she needs is a proud new owner. I would love to keep the car myself but need the garage space due to "boomerang" college kid moving back in with us. Feel free to contact me for any additional information. photos. etc.

Full Disclosure: I bought the car about 4 years ago and had it shipped to me. During loading on the delivery truck. a pointy-nosed Jaguar lightly bumped into the back of the MGB. causing some damage to the body behind the rear license plate. To me. it was barely visible. so no big deal. and I never bothered to have it repaired. But in order to be totally up front in this sale. I removed the license plate and took pictures so you can see the damage. Please see the pictures in this listing. Reference the paint. as mentioned above. there are some small dimples. a chip near the left side mirror. and a very subtle dent in the roof. There is also some slight bubbling on the right-side front and mid rocker panels and some paint cracks on the left-side mid rocker. I tried to take closeup pictures of each of these small flaws so you can see everything in advance of bidding (these types of flaws are not really visible in the wide shots of the whole car). Please see the annotated pictures in this listing.

GENERAL: Remember. this is used car and is being sold as-is. with any existing faults. whether known or unknown. There is no warranty of any kind. either expressed or implied. The above description is accurate. to the best of my knowledge. but should not be relied upon to take the place of an inspection. I encourage your inspection BEFORE bidding. Update: Several questions were asked by email. so I will share my answers here for everybody to read

Re Mileage: These older cars are all "mileage exempt" in most states. That means that no one is sure what the actual mileage really is. With these British MG's. it is also common for odometers to not register the correct number of miles. Or someone may have replaced the odometer years ago.

That said. the odometer on this car seems to be working properly. I have never calibrated it against those "check speedometer" signs on the highway or Google maps though. In addition. we can do some analysis of the mileage over the last 7 years. The car's odometer read 24. 26 when the car had it's first stage rebuild in Nov 2007. It read 26. 82 when it had the final stage rebuild in Oct 2008. When I bought it in November 2009. it was 28. 58 according to the bill of sale. Now it reads 31. 83. Based on this info. the odometer appears to be registering properly. and we can say with some confidence that the car has gone only 7000 miles since first stage rebuild and 5000 miles since final rebuild.

Re the two rebuilds:
First one in 2007 replaced brakes. wheel cylinders. axe seal. plugs. plug wires. distributor. points. condensor. carb rebuild. oil lines. fuel hose. steering system. rack & pinion assembly. front end bushings. wishbones. side mirror. wheel bearings. shocks. sway bar. leaf springs. transmission seal. motor mounts. fuel pump. head gasket. exhaust system. filters. and new wire wheels. Second one is 2008 replaced radiator. headlamps. oil pump. oil filter spin-on adaptor. shift linkage. dipstick. alternator. main and rod bearings. lifters. freeze plugs. camshaft. gaskets. hoses. timing chain. tensioner. thermostat. and heater. There are a lot of other items on the rebuild list. but this captures the main points I think. Somewhere in there. the previous owner restored the interior. The interior looks nearly perfect now except for the headliner which was replaced but is now a little loose near the front edge. Needs to be re-glued.
Re Driving the car back to your home: The longest I have ever driven the car nonstop is about one hour. and I had no problems with it at all. Oil pressure and engine temp are very stable. In fact. I have had zero problems with this car during the entire time I have owned it. Only work I have had done is to periodically change the oil. plus I replaced the front brake pads once. It's a very trouble free car. Personally. I'm too lazy to drive long distance. especially since the cost of shipping a car is so reasonable these days. Shipping the car also saves money on gas. hotels. food. and wear & tear on the car. But of course. it is your choice whether to drive it or ship it home.
