It is with a very heavy heart that we are putting our 1970 Adventurewagen Baywindow bus up for sale. due to other commitments. It is currently a cover car on the new April 2014 issue of Volksworld magazine and there is an excellent full 7-page descriptive feature within. with stunning photography courtesy of Thru-a-lupe photographic.  
This project has been a labour of immense love and time. with no expense spared. or corners cut. As a long time car builder. I try to better each of my projects with each build and this one has been a lengthly. frankly emotional mission! Those who really actually know what it takes to build something like this. will understand the asking price. The suspension components alone tally nearly 4k and this is before further modification . detailing and installation on my part - not to mention all the other work and new and rare genuine parts!! 
Last summer my wife and I took it down to France and back on a problem free tour. It drives so well and it blows minds due to its stance. WHEREVER it goes! Although it is currently featured in Volksworld magazine. it has NEVER been to or shown at a VW show! 
The massive specification is as follows; 
Mechanicals - Engine Matt Keene @ Airkraft built 1641cc twinport engine with Kadron 40mm twincarbs. Alternator conversion. Bosch 009 distributor and blue coil. New parts include; Mahle barrels and pistons. valves. pushrod tubes. rocker covers and clips. sump-plate. Scat linkage. Billet oil filler. top fan-style pulley. Pertronix electronic ignition. clutch. fan-belt. tinware fixings. fuel lines and filter. plugs and plug leads. stock exhaust box and end pipe. Heads have been mildly polished and ported. Engine was fully bench and leak down tested prior to fitment. All engine tinware was sandblasted and repainted. Case was painted silver prior to build.  
Transmission Stock transmission degunked and painted black. Flushed and filled with Castrol EP90 gear oil. New CV joints and boots and clutch cable. clutch release bearing. shift-rod bushings and gear stick plate. New 1303 steering coupling and Buggy gear adjuster (necessary for trans/motor raise). Shifts great and like stock! 
Brakes Stock drum brakes rebuilt with all new shoes. wheel cylinders. springs. brake fluid reservoir. brake light switch. hand brake cables. front and rear wheel bearings. top-quality custom made to spec Goodridge braided hoses. painted backing plates and drums.  
Suspension Are you sitting down? Good. then I will begin! • Wagenswest 4 inch narrowed ball-joint beam. new center pin. bare-metalled and freshly painted. It has been raised within the chassis rails by approx 50mm.  • Wagenswest 2 ½ inch dropped spindles. painted and N/S drilled out for the brand new speedo cable.  • Trailing arms modified for new Monroe air-shocks. fitted with 4xnew balljoints and painted.  • Wagenswest 3. 25 inch Horse shoe drop plates. painted and fitted with new fasteners.  • Creative Engineering Adjustable Spring plates with new donuts and shot-blasted and painted end-caps.  • Rear hubs modified for new rear shock position and fitted with new rear bearings.  • Rear arms modified and include air-bag mounts. Painted also.  • Top quality Firestone USA double convoluted airbags in the rear.  • Rayvern Hydraulics UK supplied compressor. air management and Tank.  • Trans and motor raised 2 inches which necessitated the fabrication of new engine and gearbox support bars.  • Massive rear chassis C-notch and upper airbag and damper mounts fabricated.  • Small front chassis notches clear the flipped new track-rods.  • Raised fuel tank (with new outlet and gauze filter) and modified filler neck. retaining stock filler position.  • The surrounding engine bay metal and rear valance have been cut out and raised 2 inches to match the trans/engine raise. Looks stock and super subtle! • Front AND rear tubs! • Front doors modified to clear front tubs.  • Removable Inspection panel incorporated into rear underseat area in order to gain access to rear bags. gear coupling etc.  *Steering box flushed. re-filled with oil and re-adjusted. Steering wheel correctly centred.  
Wheels and Tyres • GENUINE OG Porsche Fuch 14x5. 5 rims in original finish.  • Front tyres – UniRoyal - 195/45x14 • Rear tyres – Nexen CP641 - 195/65x14 • Front wheels are mounted on custom made steel narrow adapters • Rear wheels are mounted on alloy adapters • New wheels nuts • Tyres are balanced with sticky weights on the backs of the rims only. new valve stems.  
Bodywork/paint The bus stills retains approx 50% of its original L610 Delta green paintwork and I have tried my hardest to blend in any new 2-pack paint in a sympathetic manner. in order to compliment and work with the vehicles existing patina. I was amazed at just how shiny the original paint buffed up! • The entire underside and engine bay was stripped of underseal. stone-chipped. 2k primed and 2k painted in Delta green. The underside is CLEAN! • The Adventurewagen roof was removed; rust cut out of metal roof and new metal and aperture strengthening was let in. The roof was then stonechipped. primed and painted in white.  • The Adventurewagen highroof whilst removed had any holes re-glassed and then was painted on the inside only with stonechip and then Delta green 2k paint. The rear luggage rack roofbar was replaced with an aluminium one that polishes up nicely.  
Electrics All wiring has been gone through professionally by Jeff Balshaw@ RepairNRestore. A new loom has been very neatly installed and wrapped. There is a new battery with quick release terminals and all bulbs in the dash and within the exterior lights are new. New fuel sender. lines and outlet.  
Interior The interior incorporates the following; • Brand New Original period style basket weave TMI interior cards and front seat covers and horse hair.  • Fully insulated sides and waxoyl applied to all interior cavities.  • Re-painted seat frames (modified to fix to the tubs).  • New custom made original style headliner professionally stitched and installed by Matt Leache.  • Full width OG Westfalia Rock “n” Roll bed and rear cushion professionally re-trimmed by Colin Rouse in Chacewater.  • Vehicle retains the original rear Adventurewagen table (with red Deluxe insert) and the rare front dash table which has proven very practical! • Deluxe rear matt fitted.  • New bulkhead kick-panel rubber matts.  • Period Bosch headunit.  • Super -rare and funky period headrests.  • Deluxe Super rare “trip”meter speedo! • New old stock (yes NOS!) genuine VW Dash undertrays! • OG Deluxe Spare wheel cover (which hides the air-tank. ) • New quality Infinity 6x9 speakers (unwired to headunit).  • Deluxe Jailbars (sorry plaques not included. ) 
Exterior and other additions Aside from the previously mentioned paint and roof etc. the exterior features; • New rear red side reflectors and original orange fronts.  • New best quality front windscreen rubber and Deluxe insert.  • Lucas headlight covers with stainless fasteners.  • Yellow painted headlight lenses.  • Stock spare wheel and cover (on roof. ) • Rare front door louvered vent screens.  • Full 4 birth green Just Kampers drive-away Awning.  • Just Kamper Thermoblinds for privacy and regulating interior temperature.  • Original USA Oregon state number plate.
