Current customer rating:
LEYLAND MINI CLUBMAN GT
GENUINE MATCHING NUMBER
JUNE 1972 BUILD
The parting with John Cooper meant that Leyland Australia also had to stop using the Cooper name In Australia. with stocks of Cooper S running gear on hand. and a substantial contract with the police current. BLMCA decided that a performance Mini was still desirable. Production of the Clubman GT began in July 1971. with the public release being on 16 August. Unlike the UK's 1275 GT. the Aussie car retained the full Cooper S running gear. including engine. twin 1. 5 ” carbs. power-assisted disc brakes. Hydrolastic suspension (to Cooper S spec). twin tanks. wheel-arch extensions as standard. oil cooler. 120 mph speedo and a laminated front windscreen.
This car was bought by myself as being a Mini fanatic with intentions to restore to concourse glory. The previous owner had the vehicle built to a hill climb spec with Cooper S Mark II Block. large cam. forged crank. Wiseco Racing Pistons. Heavy Duty Clutch. Tuned 1. 5" SU Carbys and Contessa rims.
As per photos I retain the original block from the matching number car. which goes with the sale. Car drives extremely well with great power. no oil leaks and no rust.
Would easily pass roadworthiness.
This is a collectable car with an alleged 800 units rolling off the production line. with the majority being for the Police Services of Australia.
