Hello and welcome to my reluctant auction for this 1936 Daimler 15 6 light saloon motor car. Firstly. let me give you a little history on the car. The vehicle was purchased new in 1936 by Sir Charles Keightley who was serving in the British army. He toured Europe in this vehicle and later became governor of Gibraltar. The car then passed to other owners until eventually it was purchased by the famous cartoonist Roy Stuart Raymonde in 1962. This gentleman was a well known cartoonist for Punch and Playboy magazines and other daily newspapers. The car stayed in the Raymonde family until 2012. when it was purchased from the estate and placed on ebay for auction. whereupon I purchased the vehicle. This 1936 Daimler is in what I would describe as remarkable condition. given that it has been stored for some forty odd years. The body. built by Mulliners of Bordesley Green. Birmingham. has kept extremely well. All wings and running boards are in good solid condition and still retain their brass plate list numbers. however both front wings will require a small amount of repair. The doors. bonnet and engine side covers are also in a good solid state. all glass is intact. windows operate. ncluding front windscreen. The roof of the saloon is obviously fabric covered. this was  redone in 1954 and in my opinion was never of the best quality. The o/s front windscreen pillar will need attention to the outer skin. The main support is structurally sound. The interior of the car. I would class as fair to good. all door cards are present. seats are original. and supple but need sympathetic repair. All the wooden door cappings and dashboard are beautiful. instruments in lovely condition. finished in brass (speedo glass missing} and mounted into a copper finished panel. which is quite elegant. Steering wheel and associated switches are all fine. The floor boarding is in a good polished condition. When I purchased this vehicle I was told that the engine appeared to turn freely. sadly this was not the case and so a lengthy and costly engine overhaul became necessary. We removed the cylinder head to find 3 valves burnt and pitted beyond repair. These have been replaced with new. the remaining valves ground and lapped to form excellent seating. Head gasket is replaced. With the sump removed it was evident that the white metal bearings on main and big end caps were in excellent condition as was the crank shaft. With connecting rods and pistons now withdrawn a light honing was applied to each cylinder. Gudgeon pin bolts replaced. and a brand new set of old stock hepolite piston rings fitted to each piston. The engine was thoroughly washed out and reassembled with all new gaskets. oil and oil filter. The engine has been fitted with lodge plugs. period ht leads and obviously new points. condenser etc. The starter motor has been overhauled and new brushes fitted. The mechanical fuel pump overhauled and the radiator and cooling system thoroughly flushed through and now filled with anti freeze mix. The engine now starts and runs beautifully as expected and can be driven under its own steam! For those of you in the know. a clapped out worn engine would probably not have seized due to the amount of oil passing the piston rings. indeed this engine has at sometime been re-bored to 20 thou oversize. All gears select and the Daimler "fluid flywheel" is all good. gearbox and flywheel have been drained and refilled with new oil. The chassis and underside of this car is in excellent order. all has been cleaned off. including underside of wings and lightly oiled. The chassis requires no repairs whatsoever. The braking system is on rods. not hydraulics so therefore has been a relatively easy system to repair. All brake adjusters. actuators and linkages are now free and brakes are adjusted up. The car rolls freely. The five road wheels are in very good condition with excellent spokes but they are fitted to tyres that are at least 42 years of age however they are all inflated and hold air. The steering on the Daimler is very positive but steering and suspension will need an overhaul. All chrome. brightwork and lamps are present. The paintwork on this car is very tired. I also note that the crown wheel was replaced with new in 1962! I am pleased to say that this lovely old girl still retains its original JG number plate. I also have a folder full of past receipts for work carried out on this car. To sum up this vehicle. it is very original. it will drive and stop it will require further renovation/restoration. It would be for the next owner to decide whether to use it in its original condition or fully restore it to her former glory. In the latter case the car would be 20k plus. Thank you for your interest. Viewing of this car is recommended and encouraged. My terms are thus. I will require a £200 non returnable deposit via paypal within 24 hours of auction end. The remainder to be paid by bank transfer or cash within 5 working days.

Hi Nocholas,
sorry to hear you are parting with your 15, they are lovely cars aren't they. I am not a buyer having a 15 convertible myself. However, this email is on the off chance you might have a spare camshaft as mine is in bad condition, and if so are you willing to sell it?
Very best wishes.
Philip
