Zil 131 Cross country truck. carrying an R 161 Radio Station.

A rare opportunity to acquire late Cold War technology which is unique in the West!

This truck is the Zil 131 H. built in 1989. It has been converted to Diesel by installing a Cummins B engine with inter-cooler and an Eaton six speed box.

The tyres fitted by order of the Vehicle Directorate are Continental 1200 x 20.

The vehicle weighs 9. 75 tones and can be driven on a car licence under exemption for show vehicles.

This vehicle also has a spring break system fitted to comply with European regulation. The brakes are permanently applied to the rear two axles and air pressure has to be built up before the rear brakes will release.

This is a safety feature.

The rear two wheels are driven (4 x 4) all of the time. and using a dash mounted switch. the front wheels can be engaged to drive (6 x 6)

The drivers position has a screen for use with side looking and rear cameras.

Always very popular at shows. and many prizes won over the years!

Radio Station.

The R 161 radio station covers the frequency range of 1. 2 Mhz to 60 Mhz with 1 Kw output. The modulation modes include AM. USB. LSB. SB. M. W. On board power is generated by a petrol 4 Kw 3 phase generator.

This is the only working R 161 in Western Hands and as such always creates a lot of interest at shows and vehicle exhibitions.

The sale includes a full set of manuals for the radio equipments enabling repair down to component level.

Condition.

The truck is newly painted and fully serviced ready to show. It drives very well and delivers better than 10 MPG. The tyres are as new with no signs of wear.

The on board generator is fully working and provided 318 v AC 3 phase for the radio station and 220 v 1 phase for the use of normal equipment like kettles and microwave cooker etc.

The radio station is fully working but may not be used for transmitting without a licence obtained from Ofcom and an NOV to an amateur radio licence.

Will be visiting War & Peace this year if not sold in the mean time.

The asking price is £10 k or best offer
