Ford Pop
History :
Built by David O. eary back in the mid 90 s and was featured in Custom Car magazine in June 1999. The car has changed very little since then and is a credit to the quality of work by the builder as to its present condition .
Chassis: Original frame has been fully boxed and strenghtened with additional cross members and has been narrowed at the rear to accomadate the fitting of a narrowed Sherpa axle to fit under the standard rear arches. The present set up would easily take a V 8 if the next owner so desired.
Body: It is an all steel body except for the fibreglass sill. . The colour is British Racing Green. the roof has been filled with a section from a Sierra including a sliding sunroof. The roof gutters have been removed and replaced with lips over the doors. The door corners have been rounded off and and tinted electric windows fitted. The bulk head has been reshaped to allow for the fitting of a 2. 0 ltr Pinto. The rear lights and indicators have been frenched slightly into the body. All door handles and hinges were removed and a keyless entry system fitted. The fuel filler cap now resides in the boot. The paint is in good condition but does bear a couple of scars and a bit of road rash on the front of the rear arches ( as in photo. ).
The boot lid has been Pin striped by Tootall to suit the car.
Interior: The seats are from a Mazda 323 which have been narrowed to fit. Seat belts fitted front and rear and has original Bakelite dash and trim fitted with Mooneyes gauges all of which work and a working heater . The battery is fitted under the rear seat and excess to the brake servo can be had via an removable panel under the drivers seat. The fuel tank is under the boot floor giving you a good size usable boot which has been carpeted out.
Runnig gear: Engine is a standard 2. 0 ltr Pinto that is stock except for a K&N filter. electronic ignition and some detailing. The engine has had a recent rebuild due to a loose nut going into it from the carb and has about 300 miles on it. The exhaust is stainless steel from the manifold onwards and exits out of the drivers side. The manifold will need replacing in the future as it is getting thin in places. Cooling comes from a mk 3 Cortina and an electric fan. The steering is taken care of by a mix of H A Viva rack connected to a Mk 3 Cortina steering column.
The gearbox is a Borg Warner 35 auto and goes through the gear nice and smooth and has had a new Flexplate fitted as the old one was showing metal fatigue. The suspension is a mix of home made A arms with Vauxhall Magnum hubs and brakes with Spax adjustable coilovers on the front and Sherpa van rear axle narrowed to fit under the standard arches. This is hung on a four bar set up with Jag coilovers and a Panhard rod. The Wheels are 6 and 8 x 15" R F X s which have recently been powder coated in Chrome.
Handling: She runs and stops true and straight but is no modern car and with all these types of cars she shakes rattles and rolls suffers from a bit of bump steer and is a firm ride but allways puts a smile on your face and gets lots of people chatting to you. If your the shy retiring type then this cars probably not for you. If you want a modern . omfy. air conditioned ride then your looking at the wrong car.
This is nice . eliable . well built rod that is ready to go and enjoy for the summer . It has lots of potential if you want to put your own stamp on it
I am only selling as i have had it for 5 yrs now and fancy a change but am not in a rush so no silly offers please. I have got a garage report as to the road worthyness of the Pop for this year for peace of mind as vehicle requires no M. O. T or tax . The Pop is very cheap to insure with classic car insurance.
Viewing is recommended as to the nature of these cars but only if your serious so please no tyre kickers. test pilots or wasters.
