French Citroën acquired the Italian company Maserati in 1969 and has provided much-needed financial support. The French also demanded from Maserati put the engine and transmission for the new, to meet the wishes of Citroen supermashiny Citroen SM. Many of the details at the bottom of this model were taken from the model Citroen DSto reduce the cost of such parts as gidropnevmaticheskaya suspension and superchuvstvitelnye disc brakes on all four wheels. The V-shaped six-cylinder engine was made Maserati, which took two cylinder with its V-shaped eight-cylinder engine in volume of 3 litres and reduced its capacity to 2.6 liters, while in more recent versions of the engine's volume reached 3 liters.
