For sale is my fathers 1978 MG Midget 1500, finished in Brooklands Green with rare Beige interior. It has covered just under 60'000 miles and has had 3 previous owners. The car is now registered as a historic vehicle making it both MOT and tax exempt, but for both the sake of safety and as a method of proving the vehicles condition, I have had it MOT'd and this expires in October 2022. There is ample paperwork present, including the original BL book-pack, a thorough hand-written service diary from a previous owner, and various invoices/previous MOT's. There is also a couple of spare keys. The opportunity to purchase the Midget arose in August this year via a family friend. We were drawn to it as despite needing a minor amount of recommissioning and a couple of areas rectifying, it had evidently been cherished by all it's previous owners. For a car on it's original shell it is incredibly solid, and the bodywork/paintwork has held up beautifully. Bar a small amount of paint flaking from the dash, the same can be said for the interior. I was a little cautious of doing any significant distance in the car given that it hadn't seen much use in recent years, but with Goodwood Revival looming and the realisation this would be a great thing to get there in, I set about sorting the few niggles to put my mind at ease. So, I refurbished the Rostyle wheels in correct colour combination (had previously been powdercoated black), I painted the sills the correct shade of black (were previously body colour), I sourced and fitted the correct chrome side mouldings in the same way they would have originally been fitted, I gave the car an oil and filter change (using Castrol Classic), I replaced both track rod ends/carried out the necessary alignment afterwards, and finally I gave the car a much needed clean. Fortunately and as expected, it carried out the 120 mile round-trip without fault. The only slight worry I had was the potential for temperatures to rise whilst sitting in the inevitable queue to get in, but it sat happily in the middle of the temp gauge for the entirety (the same could not be said for the TVR in front of me!). I have now done around 250 miles in the car since the start of September, but with the weather starting to turn the car is now residing in a dry-storage unit on a friends business premises. The reason for deciding to now let the Midget go is mostly down to the usual combination of lack of space, lack of time, and other vehicles beginning to take priority. If we had a lovely multi-car garage it would undoubtedly be staying with us. But with it's current storage position not a permanent solution, I'm personally not comfortable leaving the car outside over the winter months given how brilliant an example it is, and it's sale would help progress another vehicles current restoration. Without wishing to sound cliché, the car really is best appreciated in person. I am confident in saying it is one of the (if not the) nicest example of a late Midget currently for sale.Questions and viewings are of course welcomed. We are based in the RG7 area.
