1929 Plymouth sedan. Colour - green.   Model "U" 4 cyl. L type engine.
Bore 3 5/8" × stroke 4 1/4". SAE horsepower rating 21. 02 and developed horsepower 45.   Piston displacement 174. 4 ci. Eng. number U22903. Body by Smith and Waddington.

The vechicle restoration was competed October 2000 by my father John Woodhouse. who was a qualified panel beater and spray painter. It was purchased from local farmers (brothers) who had dismantled it and begun restoration. but quickly realised the mammoth task ahead of them.

The brothers purchased the car from the original owner who was in the area many years earlier. His name was Jim Hawkins from Queensland. who Dad tracked down and kept in touch with throughout the restoration and subsequent rallying. Mum spoke with Jim a couple of years ago. He's well into his 90s and he may still be around. A very early photo in this listing shows Jim's family with the this car.

The Plymouth was Dad's third restoration after completing a Indian Chief and a vintage Rugby tourer. Dad preferred driving the Plymouth because of the four wheel hydraulic brakes. which were a vast improvement over the Rugby's rear only. mechanical brakes and also because of the comfortable sedan body as opposed to the draftiness of the tourer. Both the Indian and the Rugby have since been sold.

He did a complete restoration. replacing woodwork where necessary.   I watched him perform the lost art of lead wiping which is a predecessor to fibreglass bog. The upholstery is gray velour and it is fitted out inside with roller blinds and even an original glass vase in the back corner. It is fitted with a luggage rack. and has an instruction book with specifications and notes handwritten in the back by Dad. The nifty little display sign pictured in the listing is also included in the sale.

My parents have enjoyed many trips in the Plymouth and one highlight was chauffeuring actress Sigrid Thornton to a local event.

After Dad passed away. the vehicle was deregistered in July 2012.   Garaged in Bairnsdale. it is stored on blocks and started occasionally.   It is in excellent condition and has just been fitted with a brand new battery.   Mum has asked me to sell it for her as she would love to see it back on the road and enjoyed by its new owners.
