1974 Plymouth Road Runner for sale

Current customer rating: current rating for this car(2) based on 165 votes

I am listing my 1974 Roadrunner for auction. Its a no reserve auction for an excellent car. The car is for sale locally so if it sells local before the auction ends I will end the auction as no sale.

This car shipped out of California and I bought it so that I could avoid the rust and as you can see in the pictures its solid. There is a little rust in one quarter that would require a patch but that's it and the other quarter is already repaired. Those spots in the quarter are right at the lower part of the wheel well and aren't very big. You can see the frame rails and floors are rock solid.  The factory under coating is still on the frame rails. This is a perfect project car or driver for someone who doesn't want to have to do everything like most projects. When I got it it needed a lot of work from sitting but after going through a lot it really likes to move down the road.

Specs:
-1974 Roadrunner (real Roadrunner RM21 not a clone)
-360 High Performance Engine package with 727 Torquflight automatic. Believed to be numbers matching engine. Transmission has around 2. 00 miles since rebuild.
-Bucket seats and console with slapstick ratcheting shifter
-Ralley Dash with Tach
-Power Steering and Power disk brakes
-8 3/4 rearend
-Newer air shocks. hoses. and belts
-Lots of new front end parts including wheel bearings
-New Roadrunner beep beep horn
-Rare factory sunroof/ Only around 400 or so mopars came with the sunroof in 1974 so not many Roadrunners. No one knows the exact number.
-Mn Collector Plates so never pay tabs if you live in MN
-Collector car insurance is cheap! I pay $160/year for full coverage

Condition:
Car has a solid body with some bumps and scrapes. It was once painted the wrong color blue and should be KB5 blue which is a bright metallic blue. I have the car running great and just put 200 miles on it the other weekend. Mechanically it is sound and almost done. It could use minor things like new window guides to make the windows go up and down smoother and to fix an exhaust leak. The car hauls down the road! I Don't beat on it but if you keep your foot down it will break the tires loose in second gear.  Being from California the body is solid but the interior got sun baked. Fortunately the dash is in really good shape and all parts are available in catalogs aftermarket now. Odometer reads 20. 76 but I doubt its 20k original miles so although I can't verify I would guess 120. 76.

Essentially this car is done mechanically except for small things and is a blank canvas for someone to make it look like they want. Pick your colors. wheels. and exhaust but drive it right away with no issues. Its hard to find unmolested solid mopars any more so you won't find one better for under $10K. Even Satellites are fetching higher prices in this condition and they don't come with the beefy suspension. sway bars. and other roadrunner upgrades. You can look online now and no others come close.

Investment:
The sunroof is rare. Google the "Open Air Bird" and you will find an identical 74 roadrunner with blue interior that was recently listed for $38. 00 after a restoration. Apparently that car was one of one. I am not sure what this one is but its one of few. Also and identical red one just sold on ebay for $28. 00 a few months ago. 74 was the last year of the muscle car since 75 brought catalytic converters and major power loss. Your 68-70 chargers. roadrunners. and superbees along with all cudas and challengers have skyrocketed to where most people can't aford them. This model is next to have the huge value jump as more and more people want muscle cars they can actually buy.

Why the sale:
I am not a motivated seller because I love this car. I am only looking to move on to something else because I want a convertible. If it doesn't sell I will do the paint and wheels over the winter and relist in the spring at a much higher price but I prefer to have the winter to find a convertible and have time to get it ready to go in the spring.

Car is located in Coon Rapids. Mn. Buyer is responsible for pick up or their own shipping but I can make recommendations since I shipped this car before.

I require a $500 deposit within 48 hours of the auction close and full payment within one week. The car will not be released until payment is made.

Please ask any questions.

9/20/16 edit: I have received a lot of questions about condition. It is a 42 year old car and will require restoration.  I have put a few 200 mile days on it but I wouldn't try to drive it 1000 miles home since it hasn't been on any trips that long since I got it. It does need some things as described. like exhaust work for example. If you are able. I encourage any prospective buyers to come for a test drive.
