1941 Dodge "Luxury Liner" 2 door sedan.

Recently imported from California. this old car is now UK registered with V5 here in my name. The car is standard spec with 6 cylinder flathead engine of 3700cc. and a 3 speed semi automatic manual transmission on the column. This is called the "Fluid Drive" system and was prior to Dodge introducing an automatic transmission. Basically you need to use the clutch to change gear. but you can put it in gear. let the clutch out whilst keeping right foot on the brake an the car wont go anywhere until you accelerate. just like an auto. You will need to use the clutch to change gear. but you can if you like just set off in top gear and let the fluid flywheel take up the drive. One of the few problems the car has is that the seal on the fluid drive leaks a bit and will leave hydraulic oil on the floor. It would need topping up now and again and maybe the seal changed. or it might get  better with use as it had been sitting a few months at my mate's house in California before I actually shipped it over.

Brakes all work fine but should be checked over before serious use as I haven't had the drums off for inspection so far.

Electrics all work but you should be aware that these cars were not built with indicators. and upgrade which you may want to do! The brake light is the single red light in the middle of the boot lid below the number plate slot. Wipers are the old vaccuum type and only work partially when they feel like it.

Interior is clean and tidy. basic but nice and the leg room in the back is amazing. A really comfortable car to sit in.

The car was restored in the States many years ago and as normal. they never fully completed the job in that they never fitted door or boot seals so it does rattle a bit. especially the boot. quite annoying. They also never got the proper hood centre strip which actually hinges the sides of the "butterfly" hood. so that is a necessity as the bonnet will become dislodged during driving. Hard to find part which may have to be made.

Paint is old now and whilst it looks good. there are small scratches and some tree sap damage. but no dents. Underside is very clean showing no welding repairs but does show some light perforations to undersides of inner sills at the front and rear edges. Not structural on this car and wont need done for a while. The wooden running boards would be best taken off when rectifying this!

Okay. I've gone over every bad bit about this car. but overall it is a very pretty thing. has real presence. runs very well and drives like it should. steering is nice and light. brakes pull it up straight. gearbox is good. no rear axle noises. just a very nice and quite rare car to drive around in and improve as you go along. Get the hood hinge fixed and you can use it and show it immediately and attend to the other bits and pieces as you go along. You don't buy an old car like this if you can't tinker with it. it's part of the fun of classic car ownership. MOT exempt. free road tax. cheap insurance. and classic car values climbing all the time. what's not to like :)

If you cannot adhere to these conditions. please do not waste both yours and my time with endless e-mails. texts. etc only to end up with a failed deal as you don't have the bottle to pay for the vehicle. You always have the option to come and view it and meet me in person before buying. Viewing by appointment only as I'm not always at the yard. I could be out on a recovery job. delivering a truck locally or driving a tanker as I do relief driving for a fuel delivery company as well.
