So. here we have a great opportunity to get yourself some wind in the hair V8 motoring with all the right bits and spec at the right end of the price spectrum!
If you are reading this then you will be aware the range of pricing for Stags varies wildly. really excellent ones are £15k and up and rough basket cases £1500-2000. sometimes more. The tricky part is in the middle ground where cars that should be 5-6k are touted nearer 10. well with this what you see is what you get. All the hard graft is in place and for the sake of a good quality respray you can have that excellent 10-15k's worth of car knowing it's done right. not to mention the fact you can use it now if you wish - it's good to go.
This car is one I am selling on behalf of a good customer. He bought this from a work colleague who had the best intentions. but never got round to returning it to the road. Our brief was to get it recommissioned. safe and reliable with the cosmetics to follow. To that end it had several rounds of work and hit the road Jun 2014. It was used by his wife for general running round and attending the odd local show or event. but towards the end of 2015 developed a carburettor leak and was laid up whilst the owner looked into repairing the fault. finally choosing to replace the Strombergs with a much more consistent and reliable Weber carb. However when it wouldn't start we were asked to collect the car and get it running. A new fuel pump and a tweek or two and all was well. By this time the MOT had lapsed. but after a few small jobs a fresh ticket has been issued by our neighbouring independent garage. Sadly for the car. due to a growing family and not wanting to get into further works/repainting I have been instructed to sell it.
Works we have completed;-
- Replacement fuel Tank - Replacement Diff - New Clutch (inc cross shaft bushes and thrust bearing lugs). slave cylinder and master cylinder - New water pump - New thermostat and oil pressure gauge pipe - New horns - Small amount of welding to the boot floor (exh mount area) - Replace oil transfer housing and rocker cover gaskets - Fit new genuine SU fuel pump - Wax underside/chassis rails - Along with countless little jobs too numerous to mention.
Additional work/Special parts fitted
- Full stainless exhaust including manifolds - Spax adjustable dampers - Braided brake hoses - Header tank kit - much improves the cooling system. removing airlocks often suffered - Weber carb conversion - simple reliable carb with no diaphragms to split! - Polybushed subframe - Kenlowe fan - supplementary - 4 x brand new tyres
In term of a description. well bodily the photos show this mostly - there is some rot to the n. /s bootlid corner and the o/s of the hardtop. The door bottoms may require a little fettling but are not bad. The main body and underside/sills etc is excellent having been restored in the past I'm sure. Check out the images to see the floor pans and underside.
All the electrics work fine. even the electric windows. The rev counter sticks occasionally though!
The best bits are the fundamentals. engine. gearbox. drivetrain. brake and chassis. I have driven plenty of classic cars and this one is sweet. It starts and idles without fuss or smoke. The steering is light and direct and the brakes stop as they should. The gearchange is smooth and the overdrive operates swiftly. not lazy like a tired one. As a package it gets down the road fantastically with modern car pace and V8 soundtrack - certainly grabs attention. You really could use it daily with no trouble at all.
Faults. like I said the rev counter sticks. there is a small oil leak on the o/s of the engine which I think is the oil pressure warning light sender. the hood has a small rip. and of course the cosmetics. That said after a quick wash it looks none too bad!
It is worth pointing out;-
- The original carbs are included - There is a brand new carpet set included in brown - due to be fitted post paint. - A good condition correct MK1 boot lid is included - The windscreen chrome trims are included - It is HPI clear - Full V5 present. some history and available immediately
So to sum up. an already good car just wanting the finishing touch. stay brown or go for something different. the tan trim will go with many other colours.
On a classified advert to encourage genuine interest - we have a ramp for inspection. a very good kettle operator and encourage viewings and test drives.
