The Triumph 1300 was. in theory. designed to replace the Herald and take on Austin with their advanced range of front wheel drive saloons. It was a modest success; 150. 00 or so were produced but it was expensive so it never sold in huge numbers. Like the Triumph 2000 with which it shared a strong resemblance. it was well appointed. This was the only car produced by Triumph with front wheel drive and unusually. the engine was mounted on top of the gearbox. This arrangement had one advantage – the box could be removed for replacement of the clutch from inside the car.

This car is a 1970 Triumph 1300 in Wedgwood Blue with black interior. The mileage shows just 18k from new which we think may well be correct but we can't guarantee because there is too little history. It has always lived in the South Manchester area and had one owner until 2010. The condition is excellent as you can see from the photos and very original. The underside is a s solid and excellent as the upper body and other than the odd very minor paint defect it is best described as “show condition”. On the road this Triumph drives well and is surprisingly good as a motorway cruiser – as long as you are happy at 65mph. The interior is particularly good. the wood. trim and carpets are beautifully preserved.

Ready to use with MOT until April 2015 and free classic tax. this excellent Triumph is a rare example and makes an interesting alternative to a Vitesse. Wolseley 1500 or Vanden Plas 1300.
