Hi and thanks for looking at our well loved family camper van. As you can see. it's a well looked after 1978 VW T2 Bay Window Camper. We have owned it since February 2010 and have used it on many family outings.
Sadly. we have decided to sell the camper on as we don't have the time or space to maintain such a beautiful vehicle to the standard it deserves. We have two young kids and two big dogs and we are slowly outgrowing it. It developed an issue on it's last run and I have decided to sell it on as is.
As you can see from the pictures it has been modified customised to a very high standard. We bought it from a chap in 2010 who spend almost £12k having the whole thing rebuilt from the ground up by “AutoTechniks”. He sold it on to us as he too had a growing family and it no longer worked out for them.
All modifications were professionally undertaken by AutoTechniks and all I have done is serviced it once a year and enjoyed it!
It has Porsche Fuchs alloy wheels (I believe they are copies). it has been lowered. ith adjustable suspension (so I have been told). It has a very tidy interior with a rock 'n' roll bench at the back (three seater bench with 2 x seat belts) that pulls out into a double bed. The roof pops up and has two hammocks. The pop up roof material is the original (hence th colours) and is in good condition . The van sleeps a family of 4 comfortably -ish!
The van was used in a Take That music video for their song “Up all Night”. (see youtube if you are interested!) The band signed the interior white leatherette panel as you can see in the pics. These can obviously be removed if it's not to your taste! The van benefits form a split charge system with a leisure battery. Under the rock 'n' roll bed is a 240v inverter and auxiliary 12v socket which all run from the leisure battery. There is a flip down 10. 4” screen in the roof with integrated DVD player and free view TV (if fitted with an aerial - I never did this as we watched DVD's).
There is also a 7” pop up screen that comes out of the head unit (also DVD). The cables are in situ to allow you to play the DVD on the head unit and it play on both of the camper's screens.
The front seats are blue and white leather. of which they are in great condition apart from a small mark from a jean popper that scuffed the leather when someone was scooting about on the passenger seat. Not a big deal at all! There are some sort of bamboo-esque shelves under the front steering wheel and an EMPI shifter for the gearbox. The ignition barrel needs replacing as my wife snapped the key in the ignition at a festival a few years ago and we had to drill the barrel out to allow us to start the van with a screwdriver to drive home. I bought the ignition kit but have never fitted it. Starting the van with a coin was always quite convenient! I will include the new barrel and key set with the van.
Exterior wise. the underneath has been waxoyled and there are no nasty surprises waiting. There is a few surface spots of rust on the rear bumper but that's about it. The bodywork is immaculate and rust free. Feel free to see for yourself!
There is tax until next year and sadly the MOT has just expired.
Basically I used the van last November in an exhibition (see pics) and on the way home it coughed and spluttered and died. Last week (6 months later!) I got round to trying to sort it. assuming it was plugs. points etc. I bought the full service kit. did the routine service (oil. plugs. filters) and to no avail. it still didn't run.
Upon further investigation I have discovered the inlet manifold has cracked along it's casting line. which is apparently a common (and unhelpful) fault with newly manufactured copy inlet manifolds. After reading on the net that the engine has to come out to put a new inlet manifold on I have decided to throw in the towel and see the camper off to a new home as it is. For your ref. it is the three part manifold with the rubber boots.
For someone with a day free. it's a relatively straight forward job. I run a company. have several other projects on the go and I just don't have the time to sort it myself nor enthusiasm to fix it. It needs to go to a new home and be loved once again!
I am selling this van as it is. a superb example of a well loved VW Camper that just needs a bit of tinkering to get it sorted.
The van is located at my home just outside of Maidstone (ME17).
Any questions please get in touch!
ThanksDuncan
