THE MUSTANG LEGACY

The brain child of Lee Lacocca. the Ford Mustang rates as one of the most remarkable success stories of modern times and as such is still in production today. Initially based on the second generation Ford Falcon. which was already making a name for itself on the race and rally circuits of the world. the Mustang sold in excess of quarter of a million by the end of 1964 and a staggering 524. 91 in 1965. earning Ford a fortune. The Mustang made its first public appearance on a race track little more than a month after its launch as the pace car for the 1964 Indianapolis 500. That same year the Mustang achieved the first of many notable competition successes with the British pairings of Peter Procter / Andrew Cower and Peter Harper / David Pollard taking first and second in class. respectively. in the 1964 Tour de France.

FIA (HTP) HISTORIC RACE BUILD – 110% LEGAL!

According to its Classic Mustang Decoder Results sheet. the superbly detailed car on offer today started life on January 18 1965 in Ford's Dearborn factory and was designated as an export model. Sold new in Denmark. it was converted into a historic race car under the supervision of a notable Danish Mustang specialist in 2008. However the project was never fully completed and the car was brought over to the U. K late in 2010 where it was consigned to ‘Caged' in Frome for a full front-to-rear FIA roll cage. replacing it's period-type rear-only cage as fitted in Denmark. The next stage was a visit to historic race suspension specialists RDR for a full chassis set up. which involved stripping the car down to its body tub. With these critical specialist stages completed. the project was delivered into the safe hands of  leading historic race car specialists CCK Historic. where it was prepared for a thorough rebuild and a full repaint in the evocative livery of ‘Ecurie Ford France'. The brief was to deliver a dual purpose historic competition car that would be equally at home both on the road and track stages of the ‘Tour Britannia' as it would contesting  the gruelling ‘Spa 6-Hours' endurance event. Simply every aspect of the car was considered. A custom wiring loom was built specifically to the car along with full race instrumentation.   All the mandatory safety equipment as specified by the FIA was implemented. A FIA legal 120-litres long distance fuel tank was fitted. along with a double-pump fuel delivery system. The fresh 289 V8. built on a genuine 289 block by CCK's chief race engineer. Graham Smeeton. was mated to a manual 4-speed gearbox.   New American ‘5-spoke' alloys race wheels shod with Dunlop CR65 historic race rubber endow the car with an aggressive true-to-period stance. Throughout this specialist process. the team at CCK Historic has liaised with FIA Technical Representative. John Hopwood. to ensure complete legality under the FIA HTP process – a claim that many similar cars running today simply cannot make. A dating certificate has been obtained from the ‘Society of Automotive Historians in Britain' and it the car is U. K registered. taxed and MOT'd. As with all CCK Historic cars; the workshop-build process is backed by thorough a thorough track-test programme. This programme has been carried out in association with ex-F1 and Le Mans driver. Rupert Keegan. who has conducted all the car's testing at Goodwood.

ELIGIBILITY

As a historic competition car built to 1965 FIA Appendix K specification with the correct FIA HTP papers. this superbly engineered ‘Notch-Back' Ford Mustang is eligible for all Masters. HSCC. HRDC ‘Allstars' and pre'66 European Historic Touring Car Championships as well as many retrospective road events. such as the ‘Tour Auto' (Tour de France). where the Mustang first made its mark in period on the competition area. This is also an ideal entry to the 2013 Spa 6 Hours. Silverstone Classic and the much-muted pre-1966 ‘All - V8' historic Touring Car race. which is set for the Goodwood Revival in 2014. As with all CCK HIstoric prepared cars. this Mustang is beautifully presented throughout. having enjoyed an unlimited budget expended on its preparation – it has wanted for nothing. making it a truly ‘turn-key' racer. Quality such as this does not come cheap – some £80K having been invested in this truly dynamic racer. With the 2014 race season all but upon us. all you need to do is simply choose your next event!
